The Indian PC market just had one of their best quarters ever. According to IDC, shipments of traditional PCs – desktops, notebooks, and workstations – touched 4.9 million units in Q3 2025, marking the highest-ever quarterly performance for the segment. This is a 10.1 percent jump from the same period last year when India shipped 4.5 million units.
All major PC categories saw considerable growth during the period. Notebooks, which remain the most popular, saw a 9.5 percent increase. Desktops grew by 11.6 percent, while workstations posted the strongest jump at 14.2 percent. The premium notebook segment also continued to grow, helped by steady demand from both consumers and companies. However, the biggest highlight came from AI-enabled notebooks, which saw a massive 126.5 percent year-on-year growth. Basic AI laptops made up most of these shipments thanks to discounts and festive offers, while the newer generation of advanced AI notebooks crossed 100,000 units for the first time.
Both commercial and consumer markets contributed to the overall growth. The commercial segment was up 11.4 percent as continuous upgrades in large enterprises supported the segment, coupled with strong demand from small and medium businesses. Yet, the biggest boost came from the consumer market. With the festive season starting early, brands front-loaded shipments, which pushed consumer PC shipments to an all-time high of 2.8 million units. Online sales channels also saw their best quarter ever, with close to one million units shipped. IDC notes a shift in consumer buying behaviour, with many buyers now waiting for major online festival sales instead of purchasing during the usual back-to-school period.
On the vendor front, HP led with a 26.6 percent market share, staying ahead in both consumer and commercial categories. Lenovo came second with 18 percent, backed by strong festive season offers. Acer was at third place with 15 percent, backed by government and enterprise desktop orders. Dell stood fourth with 14.6 percent after improving its consumer performance, while ASUS remained fifth with 10.2 percent to record its best-ever commercial quarter.
IDC forecasts that demand will remain intense for the next few months, especially from enterprises and government projects. There could be some short-term adjustments because of high inventory and chip supply delays, but overall, consumer notebook demand is likely to remain healthy well into the first half of 2026.
