NVIDIA and MediaTek are deepening their partnership to build new AI computing platforms spanning cloud infrastructure, PCs and cars. The expanded collaboration will see the two companies work more closely on everything from custom AI chips for data centres to next-generation local AI computers and software-defined vehicles. NVIDIA is also investing USD 3.5 billion in convertible bonds issued by MediaTek as part of the deal.
NVIDIA and MediaTek expand AI partnership
The biggest part of the announcement is the two companies’ expanded work on AI infrastructure. MediaTek will adopt NVIDIA’s NVLink Fusion platform, which gives companies developing custom AI accelerators a way to connect their chips to NVIDIA’s rack-scale AI systems.
To put it simply, this could make it easier for cloud providers and AI companies to build custom processors for their specific workloads while still taking advantage of NVIDIA’s wider AI infrastructure. Instead of developing every part of the system from scratch, companies can use NVIDIA and MediaTek’s existing technologies for connectivity, memory, packaging and other components.
The partnership will also continue beyond large AI data centres. NVIDIA and MediaTek are working on local AI computing, including multiple generations of RTX Spark and DGX Spark PC platforms. These systems combine NVIDIA GPUs with MediaTek’s SoCs to bring more powerful AI capabilities to consumer PCs, developer machines and workstations.
The third major area is automotive technology, where both companies will continue developing platforms for AI-powered, software-defined vehicles, combining MediaTek’s automotive chips with NVIDIA’s graphics, AI and accelerated computing technologies. MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto platforms already integrate NVIDIA technologies for vehicle cockpits and can work alongside NVIDIA’s DRIVE AGX platform.
