This military actions in this film show the events of the Algerian 'General's Putsch' in 1962 when French generals attempted a coup d'etat in an effort to prevent French President Charles deGaulle from giving Algeria its independence.
The tank that is used in this movie in several scenes is an american produced M-60A1 Main Battle Tank, first produced in 1959 and fielded in US forces in 1960. This film takes place in late 59 or early 1906's and as such, a newly fielded American tank would not be available to a French forces, much less FFL who typically suffered the worst equipment of all French armed forces.
