The lyrical chanting heard at several pivotal points comes from the play itself. "Hamlet" Act 2 scene 2 page 5 when Ophelias father Polonius reads aloud a letter from Hamlet containing the lines "Doubt that the stars are fire Doubt that the sun doth move Doubt truth to be a liar But never doubt I love"
Nathaniel Parker, who plays King Hamlet in this film, played Laertes in Franco Zeffirelli's Hamlet (1990), with Mel Gibson in the title role.
While shot in the Czech Republic where many castles were available for on location shooting, most of the filming was done and sets were built on sound stages.
Based on the novel by Lisa Klein.
This film tells the Hamlet story from the viewpoint of a supporting character, in this case, Ophelia. Another production that did this was Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1990). [link=Tom Felton] (Laertes) appeared in the Harry Potter films with Gary Oldman, who played Rosencrantz in that film, and with [link=Helena Bonham Carter], who played Ophelia in Franco Zeffirelli's Hamlet (1990).
"[first lines] Ophelia: You may think you know my story. Many have told it. It has long passed into history... into myth. Ophelia: I have seen more of heaven and hell than most people dream of. But I was always a willful girl, and followed my heart, and spoke my mind. And it is high time I should tell you my story myself."
"Ophelia: There are two sides struggling in you. One is baser, one better."
