10 highly-anticipated games releasing in October 2023

October is a very special month for gamers. It marks the beginning of the holiday season and a bunch of AAA games are released around this time. Things aren’t too different this year. We have some major releases happening this time. No matter what your preferred genre is, you’ll find something that suits your fancy launching this month. From racing titles like Forza Motorsport, or action-adventure games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, this month has it all. This includes multiple ‘Game of the Year’ contenders. So let’s get started

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Release date: October 20

Everyone’s favourite wall-crawler is back and this time, he isn’t alone. Peter Parker is joined by Miles Morales as they take on the many threats to New York City and the world at large. Besides controlling both the Spider-Men in a bigger open-world map, players will get access to new traversal and combat abilities. They will also get to unlock a huge number of suits, including Peter Parker’s Symbiote suit, which should lead to its own set of issues. Keep in mind that this game is going to be a PlayStation 5-exclusive title.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Release date: October 5

Platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Those looking for stealth-based action will love this one. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is said to be more reminiscent of older Assassin’s Creed games and should offer a greater focus on stealth instead of RPG elements. The game will be set in 9th-century Baghdad and players will take on the role of Basim Ibn Ishaq, and witness his transformation from street thief to a full-fledged member of the Assassin Brotherhood. The game will be available on pretty much all platforms including iOS, but smartphone gamers might have to wait a little longer for that.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Release date: October 20

Platform: Nintendo Switch

The greatest and most recognisable gaming mascot in history is back with a brand new side-scrolling platformer. As switch prior Mario games, players will have to guide their character through multiple levels while avoiding pitfalls and classic enemies such as Goombas. This time around, players will get a total of eight characters to choose from. This includes Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Toad, Toadette, Nabbit and Yoshi. Players will get access to a number of new powerups including one that changes the character into an elephant.

Alan Wake II

Release date: October 27

Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Fans of classic survival horror will love this one. Alan Wake II is a follow-up to the first game, which gathered quite a cult following. This time around, players will take control of two separate characters. Thai includes the titular Alan Wake and Saga Anderson. Players will not only have to survive using firearms and flashlights but also figure out what is going on.

Forza Motorsport

Release date: October 10

Platform: Xbox Series X/S, PC

The Forza Motorsport series may not be the oldest when it comes to sim racing games, but it is currently considered to be one of the best. The newest instalment is going to be the eighth game in the series and is set to offer over 500 vehicles to choose ranging from classics to modern hypercars. The game will also feature elements such as real-time ray tracing, tire wear, advanced damage modelling, and more. It’s everything a sim racer will love!

Ghostrunner 2

Release date: October 26

Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Ghostrunner 2 will see players hack and slash their way to becoming the ultimate cyber ninja. St in a post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk world, players will have to take on a violent AI cult that has infiltrated the last vestiges of humanity. Players will also get a motorcycle for a bit of vehicular combat action. If you are looking for some fast-paced action, then definitely check this one out.

EA Sports UFC 5

Release date: October 27

Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X/S

If you want your action more realistic and brutal, then MMA is the place to be. EA Sports UFC 5 is set to be a great simulation of what it is like to step inside the octagon without the fear of leaving with some of your teeth missing. This time around, the game will unitise the Frostbite Engine, so players can expect even more brutal realism mixed with better attention to detail.

Cities Skylines 2

Release date: October 24

Platform: PC (Oct 24), Xbox Series X/S, PS5 (Spring 2024)

Ever think you can do a better job of running a city than our current politicians? Then Cities Skylines 2 is the game for you. The game gives you a virtual plot of land to build your own city. Players will get complete control over roads, zoning, utilities and more in order to lure residents and businesses. Players will also get the option to set city policies such as taxes and edicts to influence the city’s growth. Aside from this, Mother Nature can throw a spanner in the works through disasters such as floods or tornados.

Hellboy Web of Wyrd

Release date: October 18

Fans of third-person beat ‘em ups will love Hellboy Web of Wyrd. You take the role of the titular Hellboy as they beat and smash their way through hoards of enemies. Players can chain together physical and ranged attacks to create combos. Of course, the most eye-catching feature of the game has to be the graphics, which look like it was lifted straight from the comic book pages.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1

As the name would suggest, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is a compilation of multiple games in the Metal Gear series.
