How to check PF balance online (with/without UAN number)?

There are a number of options available for PF balance check with UAN number – UMANG App, EPFO Member e-Sewa portal, SMS, missed call, and UAN portal. For PF balance check, it is not necessary to have a Universal Account Number (UAN) as you can do so even without a UAN number.

PF balance check using UMANG App

For PF balance check, you can use the UMANG App (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) that was launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This app is a single platform to access different government services, such as Aadhaar and EPF details. For PF balance check follow these steps:

  • Download the UMANG App from Google Play Store, App Store, or Windows Store.
  • Install and launch the app by choosing your preferred language. Then, complete the one-time registration and mobile number verification.
  • For PF balance check, look for the EPFO option under Employee Centric Services on the homepage and then click on ‘View Passbook’.
  • You then have to enter your UAN and click on ‘Get OTP’.
  • After receiving the OTP on the registered mobile number, enter the same and click on ‘Login’ and follow the subsequent steps to see your passbook on-screen and EPF balance.

PF balance check using EPFO portal

Apart from the app, you can also check the PF balance on the EPFO portal by following the below-mentioned steps.

  • Open www.epfindia.gov.in.
  • Under ‘Services’ click on ‘For Employees’.
  • On this webpage, click on ‘Member Passbook’ under ‘Services’.
  • It will take you to the ‘Sign In | EPF Passbook & Claim Status’ login page, wherein you need to enter UAN, password, and Captcha, and click on ‘Login’.
  • Then click on ‘Select Member ID’ and thereafter, check the PF balance by selecting ‘View Passbook’.

For PF balance check using EPFO portal, the account must be tagged with your UAN. Please note that the passbook will not be available if you are a member of an exempted establishment or trust. In this case, you will have to contact your employer for PF balance check.

PF balance check via SMS

For PF balance check via SMS, you need to send SMS ‘EPFOHO UAN LAN’ to 7738299899.

LAN is the preferred language option in which you wish to receive the details. Type the first three letters of the preferred language option (LAN). Presently, the language options available are English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.

If the PF is managed by an exempted establishment or a private trust, then you need to contact your employer as the EPF contribution goes to the company-managed trust and not to the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization. EPFO provides no passbook facility for an exempted establishment or a private trust.

PF balance check via Missed Call

For PF balance check, you can give a missed call on 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number. Thereafter, you will receive an SMS providing details of your PF balance.

For PF balance check online, easily access your EPF passbook on the UAN portal by using these steps:

  • Visit UAN website https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/.
  • Enter UAN, password, and captcha, and click on ‘Sign in’.
  • Click on ‘View’ and select ‘Passbook’. (This will take you to the member passbook application).
  • Enter UAN, password, and Captcha, and click on ‘Login’.
  • Then click on ‘Select Member ID’ and thereafter, ‘View Passbook’ for PF balance check.

PF balance check without UAN

Don’t have UAN? Worry not as PF balance check can also be done online without the UAN by following these simple steps:

  • Open www.epfindia.gov.in.
  • Click on ‘Click Here to Know your EPF Balance’.
  • You will be directed to a new page, where you need to click on ‘Member Balance Information’.
  • Select your state and then enter your PF account number, name, and registered mobile number.
  • Click on ‘Submit’ to see the PF balance displayed on screen.

How to check PF claim status online?

For PF claim status, you can use the UMANG App (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) that was launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to streamline e-Gov services. If you don’t have the app, you can check PF claim status online on EPFO portal and UAN portal.

You can easily find your PF claim status on your mobile using the UMANG App by following these steps:

  • Enter UAN, password, and Captcha, and click on ‘Login’.
  • Then click on ‘Select MEMBER ID’ and thereafter, select ‘View Claim Status’.

How to withdraw PF?

You can withdraw PF on retirement or for emergency situations like hospitalisation, child’s education, marriage, etc. by following these steps:

  • For PF withdraw online, open www.epfindia.gov.in.
  • Under ‘Services’ click on ‘For Employees’.
  • Click on ‘Member UAN/Online Service (OCS/OTCP).
  • Now enter UAN, password, and captcha to sign in.
  • Click on ‘Manage’ and select ‘KYC’ to check whether all the details are correct or not to avoid any inconvenience in future.
  • Once KYC details are verified, click on ‘Online Service’ and select ‘Claim (Form-31, 19 & 10C)’.
  • Enter the last four digits of your bank account and click on ‘Verify’.
  • Once verified, you have to click ‘Yes’ on the ‘Certificate of Undertaking’ pop-up.
  • Next click on ‘Proceed for Online Claim’.
  • For PF withdraw online, go to the ‘I want to apply for’ section and select ‘PF Advance (Form-31)’.
  • Select your reason from the number of drop-down options listed against ‘Purpose for which advance is required’.
  • Next, fill in the employee’s address and amount for advance.
  • At the end of the page, click on the checkbox and submit your application.

Please note that you might have to upload certain documents, depending on your reason for PF withdrawal. Moreover, the amount will be credited to your verified bank account after approval by the employer. After settlement, you will be notified via SMS on your registered mobile number.

  • After receiving the OTP on the registered mobile number, enter it and click on ‘Login’ and follow the subsequent steps to see your passbook on-screen and EPF balance.

Get EPF passbook on EPFO portal

To get your EPF passbook online, visit the official EPFO website:

  • Open www.epfindia.gov.in.
  • Click on ‘e-Passbook’.
  • Enter UAN, password, and captcha, and then click on ‘Login’.
  • Select the Member ID and click on ‘View Passbook’.

EPF passbook is not available for an inoperative account, settled account, and exempted establishment account.
