Google Pixel 8a first software update rolled out with AI-powered wallpaper generator

Google Pixel 8a has received its first software update just a week after its global debut. The new software update for the Pixel 8a brings the May 2024 Android security patch, an AI feature along with some improvements and bug fixes. The Pixel 8a software update rolled out during the first day of Google I/O 2024 where a host of new AI-focused announcements were made.

The Google Pixel 8a software update is 189MB and available to download and install on your device.
This software update brings the May 2024 Android security patch. Although a small update, one important feature the Pixel 8a now has is Google’s AI-powered wallpaper generator.
As the name suggests, this feature uses AI to create wallpapers. So you get to choose themes, and keywords to create a customised wallpaper.
This feature was launched at Google I/O last year and rolled out first to the Pixel 8 series. It’s been exclusive to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro but now even Pixel 8a users can start using it.

With the latest feature, the Pixel 8a comes a step closer to the flagship Pixel 8 series. It runs the same Tensor G3 chipset as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Google also added AI camera features including Magic Editor, Best Take, and Audio Magic Eraser to the Pixel 8a. The camera setup is still the same as the Pixel 7a.

Cameras: The smartphone sports a 64MP wide camera with up to 8x Super Res Zoom, OIS, and EIS, and a 13MP ultra-wide camera. It houses a 13MP ultra-wide front camera for selfies.
Battery, charging: The Pixel 8a packs a 4,492mAh battery with 27W fast charging and wireless charging support. The smartphone is claimed to last over 24 hours and up to 72 hours with Extreme Battery Saver.
