How to apply for the Gruha Jyothi Scheme online?

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to apply for free electricity in Karnataka online.

New user registration

• Browse over to the Seva Sindhu website (https://sevasindhuservices.karnataka.gov.in) made by the Karnataka government to facilitate the registration of residents for the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
• Here, register as a New User. You will be prompted to enter your Aadhaar number along with a captcha code to start registration. 

• Click Next. You will be redirected to Digilocker. Enter your Aadhaar OTP and click on Continue.
• Allow access to all permissions.
• On the next page, enter your Email ID and mobile number. Create a new password basis the guidelines, enter the captcha, and click on Submit.
• Now, enter the OTPs you received on your email ID and mobile number. Click Validate.
• A new user account has been created on the Seva Sindhu website.

User login

• Go to the Seva Sindhu homepage (https://sevasindhuservices.karnataka.gov.in) and enter your Email ID or mobile number and OTP or password under "Apply for Service"

• Enter all required details and click on Submit.
• You will receive an Application Reference Number, which can be used for further communication.

Application tracking

• Head over to the portal again and enter your Application Reference Number in the "Check Your Application Status" tab.
• The details and status of your Gruha Jyothi application will show up.

How to apply for the Gruha Jyoti Scheme offline?

Eligible consumers can apply offline as well. For this, you will have to submit the forms and documents at Karnataka One, Grama One, or Bangalore One centres spread across the state of Karnataka.

Gruha Jyothi Scheme eligibility criteria

The Gurha Jyothi scheme is eligible for the following consumers:

• All residential customers of electricity in Karnataka, with a limit of one meter per household and consumption of less than 200 units.

• Only residential households, and not commercial setups, will be eligible for the free electricity scheme.
• Customers must link their customer ID/ account ID to their Aadhaar card and clear all remaining dues to apply for the scheme

Gruha Jyothi Scheme 2023: Documents required

• For tenants, the residential proof eligible is the account or consumer ID of their electricity connection and a Tenancy or rent agreement document to show proof of their current residence.
• For permanent residents, a voter ID or house deed in the name of the primary owner is sufficient proof to be eligible for the Gruha Jyothi scheme.

Guidelines for Gruha Jyothi Scheme

• To apply for the scheme, eligible consumers must submit applications from June 15th to July 5th, 2023, to ensure swift processing.
• The scheme is applicable from August 1st, 2023, which means that July 2023 electricity bills will be eligible for it.
• You need to submit an Aadhaar card and relevant address proofs depending on your residence status in the state.
• Free electricity up to 200 units per month will be provided by the state government free of cost. 
• One big clause of the scheme is that electricity subsidy above 10 percent of your average household consumption will not be provided. For instance, in case your average monthly electricity consumption is 100 units, a subsidy of not more than 110 units will not be provided in any billing month.
• Another aspect of the scheme is that bills with consumption of over 200 units in a month will have to pay the non-subsidised amount on the entire bill. This is contrary to a minimum of 200 units provided for free in Delhi.
• The scheme is expected to aid electricity bill relief for 96% of consumers in the state.

FAQs

Can you apply for free electricity offline?

Yes, you can apply for free electricity under the Gruha Jyothi scheme offline. To do this, you will have to submit the forms and documents at Karnataka One, Grama One, and Bangalore One centre spread across the state of Karnataka.

I have a new connection. Will I be eligible for the scheme?

Yes, new connections will be eligible for the subsidy. However, the government is expected to release guidelines soon for the application process.

Will the subsidy be eligible in case I have more than one meter for my household?

No, the subsidy is only applicable to one electricity meter per household. Additionally, if you go over the limit of 200 units in any given month, you will have to shell out the entire bill amount for that month.

Is linking Aadhaar ID mandatory for availing the scheme?

Yes, linking your Aadhaar ID (online) or showing your Aadhaar card (offline) is mandatory to register and avail the electricity scheme.

My Aadhaar ID is from outside Karnataka. Can I still avail the subsidy?

Yes, you only have to submit residence proof that shows that you are a current resident of Karnataka, in order to avail the subsidy.

Over 12 lakh Karnakata residents apply for Gruha Jyothi scheme (June 22nd)

After kicking off the registrations for the Gruha Jyothi scheme on June 18th, more than 12 lakh consumers have applied for the free electricity subsidy of up to 200 units. These registrations have been made through the newly launched dedicated 'Seva Sindhu' portal, Bangalore One, Karnataka One and Grama One centres located at various locations in Karnataka.

More than 8 lakh people register for Gruha Jyothi scheme in Karnataka (June 20th)

In order to avail 200 units of free power under the electricity subsidy launched by the Karnataka government, a total of 8,16,631 people have signed up for the Gruha Jyothi scheme. 

Second day of the Gruha Jyothi scheme sees over 1,00,000 new registrations (June 19th)

During the second day of Gruha Jyothi scheme registrations, a total of 1,61,958 applicants applied for the newly launched electricity subsidy. While many users faced technical glitches and errors on the Seva Sindhu website during the first day, the second day brought a bit of relaxation as most residents were easily able to access the site.

More than 55,000 people register for Karnataka's Gruha Jyothi scheme (June 18th)

On the first day of Gruha Jyothi registrations, more than 55,000 people applied for the scheme on Seva Sindhu's official website and by physically going to various Bangalore One, Karnataka One and Grama One centres spread across Karnataka. However, the registration process was not hassle-free as residents had to go through lots of delays due to technical glitches on the website and long queues at the registration centres.
