How to stop/disable flash messages on Airtel, Vi, and BSNL numbers on Android smartphone

A flash message is the one that pops up on the screen in a small window. It has a higher rate of visibility than an SMS and is designed to grab attention in case of messages with immediacy since it doesn’t appear in an app or inbox. However, receiving too many flash messages can be spammy. In this guide, we’ll explore how to disable flash messages across different telecom operators using your Android mobile phone.

How to stop flash messages on Airtel

Step 1: Open the Airtel Services app/ SIM Toolkit. Mind you this isn’t the same as the Airtel Thanks app available on the Google Play Store. Rather, Airtel Services appears on your Android phone when you install an Airtel SIM on the phone.

Step 2: Tap on the Airtel Now! option.

Should you stop flash messages?

Flash messages are considered a more effective communication tool than SMS as they have higher delivery priority and higher opening rates as they appear more in your face.

Flash message uses

You shouldn’t stop flash messages if you want to receive the following types of messages:

  • You will see flash messages showing the remaining balance after making a call or sending an SMS.
  • You get emergency alerts like flood warnings, weather warnings, and in case of natural disasters.
  • Telecom companies may use it to deliver OTPs for 2-step authentication and other confidential information. Since flash messages don’t get saved in the inbox, they can be considered more secure. No inbox clutter either!
However, if telecom operators or 3rd party services abuse this feature and excessively send flash messages, then the recipient may find it intrusive and want to disable it.
