Huawei trademarks P300, P400, P500, and more names in the UK

Huawei may be planning to launch new P series smartphones in the near future. While the company hasn't launched a P series smartphone with 100s in the name, new trademarks show that things may soon change. The Chinese corporation recently trademarked a total of eight new P-series phones. The phones could carry the model number P300, P400, P500, P600, P700, P800, P900, and P1000. Huawei filed the trademarks with the Intellectual Property Office of Great Britain. Either the company is planning to launch new P series phones, or it wants to change the name.

Huawei's latest P series phones, the P30, P30 Lite and the P30 Pro, are flagship devices. The P30 Pro features one of the best cameras systems available on a smartphone right now. As you can see, the company hasn't released a P series phone with hundred in the name. It started with the P8 model in 2015, which succeeded the Ascend P7. Huawei then went on to release the P9, P10, P20, and most recently the P30 series. The company will also launch the P40 series next year, as the name has already been trademarked.

Therefore, we have no idea what Huawei plans to do with the new names that it has registered. Perhaps, the company would launch new variants of the P series and could use the names for future devices once it reaches P100. It is better to trademark a name beforehand, as others may end up using the name and Huawei would have to make bigger changes. Once we reach the Huawei P90 series, the company would definitely need to start using hundred in the name.

It is also possible that Huawei could use the new naming structure for the P Smart series. The new names could be used to denote mid-range smartphones belonging to the Smart series, so as to not confuse with the flagship P series. All of this is just speculation, which means that you need to take all of this with a pinch of salt. We will have to wait for a statement from Huawei to know more.
