Indian PC market shipped 3.07 million units and grew 2.6 percent YoY in Q1 2024: IDC

The Indian PC market has seen a 2.6 percent year-over-year (YoY) shipment growth in the first quarter of 2024, owing to 3.07 million shipments. Let’s see what has contributed to this and which companies are at the forefront.

Indian PC Market dynamics in Q1, 2024

  • As per IDC, the desktop and workstation categories have grown the most by 10.1 percent and 2.7 percent YoY respectively.
  • Meanwhile, the notebook category has declined by 1.7 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
  • Interestingly, the sale of premium notebooks/laptops (priced over US $1,000) has surged by a notable 21% YoY.
  • The consumer segment has grown by 4.4% YoY in the first quarter of this year.

  • A low volume of PC sales in Q1 2023. Perhaps, this hints at a yearly PC refreshing practice of people.
  • Republic Day sales on leading retailers across online and offline platforms. 

We also wonder if the start of back-to-school season in Q2 2024 has anything to do with this.

While this has been an impressive third consecutive quarter of YoY growth, IDC India & South Asia RM, Bharath Shenoy is concerned about a “softened” demand than previous quarters.

As for the commercial segment, there has been a considerable 56.9 percent increase in government sector orders. This is said to have offset a drop in enterprise demand. 

Indian PC market Q1 2024: top performers

  • HP is dominating with a 30.1 percent market share. It leads in both consumer and commercial space, despite an 8.8 percent YoY decline in shipment. It is the leader in the consumer notebook category too. This echoes our own data based on user searches on 91mobiles where HP was the most-searched PC brand in Q1 2024.

  • Dell stands second with a 17.5 percent share in Q1 2024. In the consumer segment, it garnered a 20.7 percent growth year over year. Interestingly, Dell was 4th in our top 5 most-searched brands in Q1 2024. Lenoco and ASUS were second and third, while Acer was the 5th most-searched brand on 91mobiles.
  • According to the IDC data, Acer came in third with a share of 15.4 percent. It has secured 51.7 percent YoY growth in consumer space thanks to online sales.
  • Lenovo was at 4th with a 15.1 percent market share, a slight decline from the same period last year (15.7%).
  • ASUS managed the 5th position with a 5.9 percent market share, a decline of 8.3 percent from Q1 2023. It was second to HP in the consumer notebook category.
