iPhone 15 design roundup: rounded edges, titanium build, Type-C port, and more

Highlights
  • iPhone 15 series would come with rounded edges instead of square edges.
  • All iPhone 15 models are rumoured to get the Dynamic Island display.
  • The iPhone 15 series is expected to feature a USB Type-C port.

Apple iPhone 15 leaks are doing the rounds just a couple of months after the iPhone 14 series launch. Tipster ShrimpApplePro (who earlier made a prediction about the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro) recently claimed the iPhone 15 series will get a design overhaul, which is long overdue considering the current flat edge design has been going on since the iPhone 12 series. Besides rounded edges, all iPhone 15 models are rumoured to get the Dynamic Island display, and more.

Here’s a quick roundup of the iPhone 15 series rumours that have surfaced on the internet so far.

iPhone 15 might feature curved edges

iPhone 15

The iPhone 15 design will reportedly include rounded edges on the rear glass panel instead of the flat design we are currently used to seeing. Apple could be inspired by its iPhone 5C this time around. PhoneArena presented a render (seen above) that images what the iPhone 15 could look like if it’s rounder.

It’s as if Apple is going back to its roots to get design inspiration for its upcoming iPhones. First, there was the iPhone 4 inspiration for the iPhone 12 lineup and above. Now, early rumours hint at a possible iPhone 5C-like look for next year’s models.

Titanium build

Rumours also suggest the upcoming iPhone 15 (possibly just the Pro models) might ship with a titanium body. This change should make the Pro models lighter compared to the stainless steel iPhones. This combined with the rounded edges should make even the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max easier to hold.

Dynamic Island for all iPhone 15 models

iPhone 14 Pro Dynamic Island

Dynamic Island was the biggest change on the iPhone 14 Pro. This is an interactive space on the display that replaces the typical notch. The Dynamic Island shifts its shape automatically based on different notifications such as battery charging indication, music, calls and more. This feature was, however, restricted to iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Now, recent reports have indicated that all iPhone 15 models will get Dynamic Island.

If true this will be the biggest change for the entry-level iPhones considering there have been complaints from all corners that the design hasn’t changed much over the years.

iPhone 15 with Type-C port

iPhone 15 series might finally embrace the USB Type-C port. Apple has been facing legal battles in various parts of the world for removing adapters from the box and offering the Lighting port instead of the more common USB-C port, forcing customers to buy separate adapters for each electronic device. With many countries, including India, looking to adopt USB-C as the standard port for smartphones, Apple will be forced to switch to USB-C on its future iPhones.
