In the past few years, Lenovo-owned Motorola has released a handful of smartphones, of which most have been powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon series of processors. Apart from Snapdragon SoCs, the company also launches smartphones that utilise MediaTek chipsets. Now, Motorola is planning to tap Samsung for its Exynos series processors, we have learnt.
A reliable source has informed 91mobiles that Motorola is working on two new smartphones that will have Samsung's Exynos SoC onboard. These phones will be powered by the Exynos 7 Series 9610 processor and will arrive as Android One offerings. Both handsets will be mid-range offerings. Unfortunately, we don't have any other details regarding these smartphones at the moment.
The Exynos 7 Series 9610 is a mid-range, octa-core SoC that was unveiled in March last year. The chipset sports four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and four energy-efficient Cortex-A53 cores operating at 1.6GHz. The SoC is paired with an Arm Mali-G72 graphics processor. The chipset has been manufactured utilising Samsung's 10nm fabrication process. Another major feature of the Exynos 9610 processor is support for 480fps slow-motion video recording in full-HD resolution. The other notable features of the SoC include Cat. 12 3CA connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0, and face detection functionality.
In related news, Motorola recently launched its latest Moto G series smartphones dubbed the Moto G7, Moto G7 Play, Moto G7 Power, and Moto G7 Plus. While the first three are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 632 SoC, the Plus model utilises the Snapdragon 636 processor. They are only available in Brazil at the moment at the starting price of around Rs 20,000.
