New Ola electric scooter will be cheaper than the Ola S1 and S1 Pro: report

Highlights
  • The next big launch from Ola is another electric scooter that will be more affordable than the current S1 range.
  • Ola will possibly trim down some features in the upcoming vehicle, to make it a cheaper alternative than its current offerings.
  • The new e-scooter is expected to offer a range of around 100km on a single charge.

Popular cab aggregator Ola had launched its first new scooters on the 15th of August this year. The Ola and Ola S1 Pro come with a 2.98kWh battery and a 3.97kWh battery respectively. Both the models have a peak power of 8.5kW and are said to have a range of 121km, with a top speed of 90kmph. Now according to a new report (via RushLane), in the near future, the company plans to extend its portfolio of vehicles with a cheaper new offering. The next big launch from the Bengaluru-based EV maker might be a more cheap electric scooter than the existing S1 series, which would compete with the already popular gasoline-powered scooters like the Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter.

Ola Series S coming soon?

Further, the report also states that Ola’s new e-scooter will have lower specs than their current S1 series and would be the cheapest offering from the company. It is likely to be called Ola Series S. Ola has already registered the name. Certain functions would be missing from the new scooter in order to keep the price low. Replacing the present 3kWh battery in S1 with a lower-rated battery might be the most cost-effective option. This battery might provide power to a lower-capacity electric motor. This would result in longer battery life as well as a shorter single-charge range.

Ola is also likely to eliminate certain modern features included in its S1 series, such as a touchscreen display, Bluetooth control, and keyless ignition via mobile app. Other premium features like Wi-fi connectivity and voice navigation, are likely to be overlooked. Instead of the 12-inch alloys used on the S1 series, the new e-scooter might have plain steel wheels, like the other scooters in this price range.

New Ola electric scooter price (expected)

The price of this new Ola e-scooter variant will also be less than its current offerings. The Ola S1 price in India starts at  Rs 99,999, while the S1 Pro costs Rs 129,999. In terms of price, the impending lower version of the Ola electric scooter is projected to be priced between Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000, making it a direct competitor to India’s best-selling gasoline-based scooters like the TVS NTORQ 125 or the Honda Activa 6G.
