With smartphone players like Google, Samsung, OPPO, Xiaomi, Motorola, and others hopping on the Android 17 bandwagon, Nothing has officially revealed the launch date for Nothing OS 5.0. Set to be based on Android 17, the company has seemingly already started a community review programme by inviting Phone (3) users to try out the next iteration of Nothing OS, even though the community post doesn’t explicitly state the programme is meant for Nothing OS 5.0.

Nothing OS 5.0 is all set to be officially unveiled on August 25th at 11:00 BST (3:30 PM IST). This comes from a post by Nothing on X, with the caption “More joy, every day”.

As has been the tradition, Nothing’s newest mobile software skin will likely be showcased through a YouTube launch event on the stated date and time. Users can expect a host of new features, customisation options, and, most importantly, confirmation of whether their Nothing smartphone will be eligible for the update.
As of now, there have been no hints of what Nothing OS 5.0 is set to bring from both official and unofficial channels. But if we were to dissect Nothing’s announcement post, the caption “More joy, every day” could hint at improved ways to personalise your phone. Meaning, the update could introduce more widgets, icon packs, lockscreen clock styles, etc. Furthermore, the posted video showcases animated gradients in various colours, possibly indicating that OS 5.0 will bring colourful elements to the UI.
Based on the number of OS upgrades promised at launch and the number of major upgrades they’ve already received, here’s a list of Nothing devices expected to get Nothing OS 5.0:
Nothing’s first two smartphones, the Phone (1) and Phone (2), are unlikely to receive the update as they’ve reached their end of life, while the CMF Phone 1 will also miss out on Nothing OS 5.0.
To get your hands on the update at the earliest, Nothing is likely to launch a beta programme starting with the newest devices, such as the Nothing Phone (4a) series and the flagship Phone (3). Following the successful trial of Nothing OS 5.0, the update should be rolled out to all users in stable form. All details, including the beta programme date, official list of devices, and upcoming features, will be announced on August 25th, so stay tuned to 91mobiles for coverage on Nothing OS.
