Samsung is setting the stage for its next big software update, confirming that One UI 8.5 will arrive at its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 25th, alongside the Galaxy S26 series. The new version of its Android skin is based on Android 16 QPR2 and is the next major step in Samsung’s software roadmap.
The company has started teasing the update with a new YouTube video that turns four core Galaxy apps — Messages, Gaming Hub, Wallet, and Camera — into animated characters dancing on screen. The clip flashes phrases like “The new One UI is coming” and “Your Galaxy, Your Way,” and links directly to the Unpacked event invite, leaving little doubt that this is about the stable One UI 8.5 rollout for the Galaxy S26 lineup.
One UI 8.5 has technically been around since December 2025, when Samsung released it as the latest One UI version for Galaxy devices and began beta testing it on the Galaxy S25 series. The expectation now is that the S26 family will be the first non-foldable flagships to ship with the stable build out of the box, with older models following via updates later in the year.
Samsung is pitching One UI 8.5 as a cleaner, more refined interface that’s easier to use and more customisable than One UI 8.0. Early looks highlight a redesigned UI with tidier layouts, smoother animations, and deeper personalisation options, including more ways to tweak themes, icons, and lock screen elements. It also layers in new features and system-level improvements tied to Android 16 QPR2, such as better accessibility and background performance tweaks.
Samsung’s move keeps it in step with Google’s own Android 16 work on Pixel phones and ahead of many Chinese brands that often take longer to ship major OS updates. For users who care about both long-term updates and heavy UI customisation, One UI 8.5 helps Samsung strengthen its pitch in the premium Android segment.
If you’re considering a Galaxy flagship and want the latest software on day one, it makes sense to wait for the Galaxy S26 series rather than picking up an S25 right now. Existing S25 owners don’t need to rush an upgrade, as they should get the One UI 8.5 update through the ongoing beta and later stable rollout. If you value a polished interface, extensive customisation, and Samsung’s broader ecosystem features, the S26 with One UI 8.5 will be the more future-proof choice.
