Pixel 3, Pixel 3a and Pixel 2 get new astrophotography feature with Google Camera V7.2 update

Google Pixel 4 series has brought significant improvements in terms of optics compared to previous generations. This is the first time Google has included a dual rear camera setup on a Pixel phone. As for the camera software, the Pixel 4 series introduces a new feature called astrophotography that allows users to take noise-free pictures of the night sky. The phone needs to be steady to click astrophotography images as it takes 15 exposure shots over four minutes. Google announced that this feature would be coming to older Pixel phones as well. Now, according to Digital Trends, Google camera version 7.2 is rolling out, and it brings astrophotography mode to Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 2 users as well.

Google Camera 7.2 also brings UI changes like larger text and buttons and the camera experience is now much closer to Pixel 4. It should be noted that astrophotography feature won't show up as a separate setting on the app; instead, it will reside in the Night Sight mode. When a Pixel user is in the Night Sight mode, the phone would automatically recognise when it's pointed at the dark sky and surface a prompt indicating that the astrophotography mode is now enabled.

Moreover, users will need to be running on Android 10 to use Google Camera V7.2. Since the update is already rolling out, one can update directly from Google Play store. Unfortunately, though, the original Pixel phones haven't received the feature as Google is finally ending the support for them with the last update in December.
