Following the launch announcement, POCO has now officially revealed the battery capacities and charging speeds of its upcoming high-end smartphones, the POCO X8 Pro and POCO X8 Pro Max. These smartphones will launch simultaneously globally and in India on March 17th, and could feature varied specifications and features, as revealed from the battery announcement today.
Per POCO Global’s official X handle, the POCO X8 Pro will feature a 6,500mAh battery, while the POCO X8 Pro Max gets an 8,500mAh cell. Both handsets will support up to 100W fast charging. On the contrary, POCO India’s X handle reveals that while the X8 Pro will come with the same 6,500mAh unit as its global counterpart, the POCO X8 Pro Max will be equipped with an even bigger 9,000mAh battery. While the charging speeds remain the same on both, the Indian variant of the X8 Pro is also set to bag 27W reverse wired charging.
Compared to last year’s global variant of POCO X7 Pro, the X8 Pro sees a battery increase of 500mAh, while the Indian POCO X7 Pro featured a 6,550mAh cell. Both POCO’s current highest-end flagships available globally, the POCO F7 Pro and F7 Ultra, carry a 5,300mAh and 6,000mAh battery, respectively. This makes the POCO X8 Pro Max with an 8,500mAh battery the highest battery capacity phone the company has to offer. The Indian variant of the X8 Pro Max goes a step further by adding an even bigger 9,000mAh battery.
With such features in tow, these phones target buyers who want near-premium performance, exceptional battery endurance, and modern features without paying flagship prices.
Per tipster, Yogesh Brar on X, the POCO X8 Pro’s pricing could start at Rs 35,000, while the POCO X8 Pro Max could be priced at Rs 42,000. For context, the POCO X7 Pro with the Dimensity 8400 Ultra was launched in India at Rs 27,999, while the X8 Pro Max is a brand-new offering from the company.
For the said leaked price, the POCO X8 Pro Max could go head-to-head against the iQOO 15R, which retails for Rs 44,999 in India and features a similarly capable chipset as the Dimensity 9500s, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The iQOO 15R is equipped with a smaller 7,600mAh battery, while the charging speeds remain the same at 100W. In our in-house test, the iQOO 15R scored 3,078,708 on the AnTuTu benchmark, while the POCO X8 Pro Max is claimed to offer a score 30,10,000, per a Flipkart teaser.
Coming back to the POCO X8 Pro, it could compete against the brand’s own POCO F7, which features a more powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset along with a bigger 7,550mAh battery. Similarly, the iQOO Neo 10 and OnePlus Nord 5 also sit around the Rs 35,000 price category, offering users more options to choose from when it comes to performance-oriented smartphones.
However, considering these phones are said to be rebranded versions of China’s Redmi Turbo 5 and Turbo 5 Max, as suggested by earlier reports, the camera hardware may not be as well-packed as other smartphones that highly prioritise cameras. The said Redmi smartphones feature 50MP primary and 8MP ultrawide cameras on the rear, with no signs of a dedicated telephoto or periscope lens, which limits the photography versatility.
