Realme 16T and Vivo T5 Pro compared: which phone offers better value for money?

Realme 16T launched in India last week as the brand’s latest big-battery phone. It packs a massive 8,000mAh battery, along with AI-backed camera tools, and a unique selfie mirror design. Realme 16T is the latest among a good number of phones, offering a large battery for users who need peak endurance. This has become a growing trend with 7,000mAh as the standard battery capacity among new phones these days. With a starting price of Rs 29,999, the Realme 16T competes with another battery monster, the Vivo T5 Pro, which boasts a 9,020mAh battery and costs the same.

Here’s a detailed comparison between the Realme 16T and Vivo T5 Pro (review) to see which phone is a better pick.

Realme 16T vs Vivo T5 Pro: design, display

The Realme 16T features a square-shaped camera module at the back with a “Selfie Mirror”, similar to the implementation seen on the Realme 16. The idea behind this feature is to allow users to use the rear cameras for selfies and group shots. The Aurora Green variant of the Realme 16T has a patterned finish, while the Starlight Red and Starlight Black variants are more classic and premium. The handset is also highly durable with IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.

In comparison, the Vivo T5 Pro is more minimalist and sleek with a vertically-aligned camera module. Its colour options are also limited to Cosmic Black and Glacier Blue. It carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings, making the handset quite durable as well. Overall, both phones carry a premium, good-looking design, with the ultimate choice depending on personal preference.

Up front, the Realme 16T features a large 6.8-inch (1570×720 pixels) HD+ LCD screen with a 144Hz refresh rate, and up to 1,200 nits HBM brightness. The Vivo T5 Pro also has a similarly sized large screen, but with better hardware. It’s a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 5,000 nits. With a 1.5K resolution and an AMOLED panel, the Vivo T5 Pro would offer a better viewing experience for content and gaming alike.

Realme 16T vs Vivo T5 Pro: chipset

For performance, the Realme 16T uses the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor. This chipset is popular in the budget segment and is seen mostly in entry-level and budget 5G smartphones, focusing more on efficiency and balanced day-to-day performance rather than raw performance.

The Vivo T5 Pro uses a more powerful Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, which is faster and should deliver better performance for everyday use and moderate tasks like gaming. While neither targets the raw benchmark numbers, the Vivo T5 Pro might be a better choice when it comes to reliable performance.

Realme 16T vs Vivo T5 Pro: battery, charging

Coming to the main bit, the battery capacity. The Realme 16T houses an 8,000mAh battery with 45W wired fast charging support. It also supports reverse charging functionality that allows the device to act as a power bank for accessories such as earbuds, smartwatches, or even other phones.

The Vivo T5 Pro has a bigger 9,020mAh battery with 90W FlashCharge support. On paper, the T5 Pro has the upper hand with a larger capacity and faster charging. However, the real-world performance is expected to be quite similar for both phones. And any difference would be minor and may not be quite significant. If you’re not too stuck on numbers, either phone should be fine for battery endurance.

Realme 16T vs Vivo T5 Pro: cameras

In terms of optics, the Realme 16T features a 50MP Sony AI camera and a 2MP monochrome camera at the back. For selfies, there’s a 16MP front camera. Realme has added features, including AI Popout, AI Portrait Glow, and the company’s LumaColor imaging engine, to improve lighting balance, skin tones, and facial detail, particularly during portrait photography.

On the Vivo T5 Pro, you get a 50MP Sony IMX882 primary sensor with a 2MP bokeh sensor at the back. For selfies, there’s a 32MP front camera. The T5 Pro comes with features such as OIS and EIS, 4K video recording at 30FPS, and lossless zoom up to 10x. The camera setup on both phones is similar, except for the front camera, where the T5 Pro has an advantage with a more powerful sensor.

Realme 16T vs Vivo T5 Pro: software

On the software front, the Realme 16T runs Android 16 with Realme UI 7.0 out of the box. Realme hasn’t revealed the software update policy for the handset, but the Realme 16 series is known to get 4+6 years of updates. Realme UI 7.0 is the latest software version offering various customisation options, AI features, and improved performance across the board.

The Vivo T5 Pro also runs the latest Origin OS based on Android 16 out of the box and promises up to 3 OS upgrades and 5 years of OS security patches. This software update policy is typical for the price segment, ensuring decent long-term usage.

Summing up

Based on the technical specifications, the Vivo T5 Pro holds a hardware advantage in key areas, including a more powerful chipset, a higher-resolution AMOLED display, and a higher-megapixel front camera. Meanwhile, both devices offer comparable attributes when it comes to battery endurance, design durability, and the overall software experience.

Ultimately, for users prioritising raw performance and display quality at this price point, the Vivo T5 Pro presents a stronger specification sheet on paper. So, the Vivo T5 Pro suits power users and gamers better, while the Realme 16T can be considered by casual users. If either of the phones suits your usage, then now would be a good time to purchase them.
