Realme has officially announced the launch date for its next Neo-series flagship. The Realme Neo 8 will debut in China on January 22nd, and the company has already started teasing some key details. From what’s been revealed so far, Realme is positioning the Neo8 as a performance phone with an emphasis on display, battery life, and a gaming-oriented design.

The Realme Neo 8 is confirmed to feature a Samsung M14 OLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate and 6,500 nits of peak brightness. Those are impressive numbers, even by current flagship standards, and should ensure excellent outdoor visibility and sharp HDR viewing. In terms of brightness, the Neo 8 is just slightly behind the company’s own top-tier current flagship, the Realme GT 8 Pro, which has a peak brightness of 7,000 nits.  Realme says the panel uses Samsung Display’s latest materials, promising better power efficiency and durability than earlier OLED generations. Leaks indicate the screen will measure around 6.78 inches, feature a flat design, and include an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. The 165Hz display also matches up to OnePlus 15 and 15R’s refresh rate, which is currently the leader among flagships.

Under the hood, the Realme Neo 8 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip, which debuted on the OnePlus 15R in December last year. According to Realme, the Neo 8 has exceeded 3.58 million points on AnTuTu, putting it in flagship performance territory. That’s a notable leap from the Neo 7 and positions the Neo 8 among this year’s powerful Android flagships.

Battery performance appears to be another major focus. The Neo 8 is rumoured to pack a large 8,000mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging. That’s a significant jump compared to flagships, which typically top out at 7,000mAh. Brands have started experimenting with larger capacities and Realme’s move to 8,000mAh could appeal to gamers and heavy users who need extended endurance without frequent charging. Even OnePlus launched a China-exclusive Turbo series recently with 9,000mAh batteries.

On the camera front, the phone is expected to feature a triple rear setup led by a 50MP primary sensor. It’s also tipped to include a 50MP periscope telephoto lens offering 3.5x optical zoom, along with an 8MP ultra-wide camera. Realme has confirmed that one of these sensors supports up to 120x zoom, likely achieved through a combination of optical and digital processing from the periscope system. On the front, the Neo 8 is said to house a 16MP selfie camera.

When it comes to design, Realme is leaning heavily into its gaming identity. The Neo8 will come in three colour options — Cyber Purple, Mecha Gray, and Origin White — each featuring a transparent RGB rear panel. The back also includes VOOC branding in orange, partially exposes the phone’s internal layout, and incorporates design touches like Awakening Halo lighting and the “HYPERIMAGE+” label on the camera module. There’s also an NFC tag visible, confirming the presence of NFC support.

The Realme Neo 8 is shaping up to be a strong choice for users who prioritise performance, high-refresh displays, and battery longevity over compact or minimalist design. Those who prefer sleeker aesthetics or a more camera-centric experience may look elsewhere, but for gamers and performance enthusiasts, the Neo 8 could be one of the exciting Android launches to watch this year.
