Xiaomi has officially started teasing the Redmi Note 17 series in China, confirming that its next-generation mid-range smartphones will debut later this month. Ahead of the launch, an image has surfaced online (via), offering the clearest look yet at the Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro while also hinting at a refreshed design language for the lineup.
Reports suggest the series could include four models: the Redmi Note 17R, Redmi Note 17, Redmi Note 17 Pro, and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. The Redmi Note 17R is also rumoured to arrive in global markets as a rebranded Redmi 17 5G.
The leaked poster suggests Xiaomi is giving the Redmi Note 17 series a noticeable visual refresh. Unlike the Redmi Note 15 series, which features a centrally positioned square camera island, the Redmi Note 17 lineup shifts the camera module to the top-left corner.
The vanilla Redmi Note 17 appears with two large rings housed inside a rounded rectangular camera island (though reports suggest there’s only one sensor), while the Redmi Note 17 Pro uses a similar layout but accommodates an additional sensor. The flat frame design has been retained. The redesign makes the phones look cleaner and more understated than their predecessors, while also helping visually distinguish the new generation despite the familiar flat-sided chassis.
According to recent leaks, both the Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro could feature a 6.83-inch flat OLED display with 1.5K resolution. The standard model is tipped to use the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset with support for 67W fast charging. The Pro variant may step up to the newer Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 processor and could pack a massive 9,000mAh battery. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, while not a flagship chip, is expected to handle daily tasks and most popular games smoothly, appealing to users who prioritise reliable performance without breaking the bank. Both phones are expected to include a 50MP primary camera, dual speakers, HyperOS 3.1 based on Android 16, and a water-resistant body.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is rumoured to launch separately next month. It could feature a Dimensity 7500 chipset, a 10,100mAh battery, a 200MP primary camera, and the same 1.5K OLED display.
Interestingly, Xiaomi has skipped the Redmi Note 16 branding altogether, jumping directly from the Note 15 series to the Redmi Note 17 lineup. The company hasn’t yet confirmed any of the hardware specifications.
For now, Xiaomi has only confirmed a China launch later this month. However, the Redmi Note series has traditionally made its way to global markets, including India, a few months after its Chinese debut.
Like all Android OEMs, Xiaomi appears to be doubling down on battery capacity while refreshing the design instead of making big hardware changes. Buyers, however, could wait for Xiaomi to confirm pricing and regional variants, as Redmi’s India launches often differ from their Chinese counterparts in terms of specifications.
