Xiaomi has quietly taken the wraps off the Redmi Pad 2 9.7, listing the tablet on its official websites in Singapore and Malaysia. This isn’t a premium tablet but one that targets users who want a compact, affordable tablet without sacrificing core essentials, based on its specifications and pricing. Also, this tablet isn’t to be confused with the Redmi Pad 2 from last year, which is available in India.

Redmi Pad 2 9.7 specifications

The Redmi Pad 2 9.7 features a somewhat compact 9.7-inch LCD screen, making it noticeably more compact than other large-sized Android tablets, which commonly stretch past 11 or even 12 inches. Despite the smaller footprint, Xiaomi hasn’t cut corners on the specs. The panel offers a 2048×1280 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate, along with up to 600 nits of peak brightness. That combination is quite decent for a budget tablet, making it suitable for everyday tasks like reading, watching videos, and casual gaming.

Under the hood, the tablet is powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 2 4G chipset, paired with 4GB RAM and up to 128GB of storage. This clearly positions the device in the entry-level to budget segment. In practical terms, that means it should handle routine tasks like web browsing, streaming, and light multitasking without issues, but it’s not designed for heavy gaming or demanding creative workloads.

The Redmi Pad 2 9.7 features an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, which is adequate for video calls and occasional photography. Battery capacity stands at 7,600mAh with support for 18W wired charging. Interestingly, Xiaomi bundles a 15W charger in the box in Singapore and Malaysia, which could be to cut costs. The tablet runs HyperOS 3, Xiaomi’s latest software platform based on Android 16.

In Singapore, the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 starts at SGD 229 (Rs 16,900 approx) for the Wi-Fi model and SGD 269 (Rs 19,900 approx) for the Wi-Fi + 4G variant. Malaysia listings are live as well, though pricing there hasn’t been finalised yet. There’s no word on an India launch yet, but Redmi could bring it here as it regularly updates its tablet portfolio.

For now, the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 can be recommended to people who want a compact tablet for everyday use, like entertainment, reading, studying, and light productivity. It’s not recommended for those who expect raw performance, as the tablet isn’t designed for that. So, if you’re looking to buy a budget-friendly tablet for such needs, then the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 can be considered.
