"The Galaxy S10 series has outsold its predecessor Galaxy S9 series, with Galaxy S10+ being the most successful model"
Samsung Galaxy S10 series has broken the sales record set by last year's Galaxy S9 lineup. The flagship series from Samsung – comprising of Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10e, and Galaxy S10+ – managed to sell 16 million phones worldwide during the March-May period (Q2), according to Counterpoint Research. The figure is 12 percent higher than the last year's Galaxy S9 series, which only had two models – Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ – in the same period. Interestingly, the pricier Galaxy S10+ was the most popular model, followed by Galaxy S10 and the affordable Galaxy S10e.
The data shows the premium Galaxy S10+ model accounted for 42 percent of the flagship series, while the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10e reported 32 percent and 22 percent respectively. The Galaxy S10 5G, which went for sale in April in select countries, was not included in the Counterpoint's calculations. However, it was reported previously that over one million units of the handsets have already been sold (that's the sales figure from South Korea alone).
Meanwhile, the successful sales of Galaxy S10 series have helped Samsung increase its market share in the global premium smartphone market. In the first quarter, the chaebol accounted for 25 percent market share, which is up from 3 percent compared to last year.
The three smartphone strategy seems to be working for Samsung, and it's speculated the vendor could repeat the same for its upcoming Galaxy Note 10 series as well. The series launch is scheduled for August 7th and is expected to come with Galaxy Note 10e, Galaxy Note 10, and Galaxy Note 10+ smartphones. The successors to last year's Galaxy Note9 is expected to come with Infinity O dynamic OLED display, Exynos 9820/ Snapdragon 855 SoC, improved S Pen support, and up to triple rear cameras.
