Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra tipped to feature triple camera setup: one less sensor than S24 Ultra

Highlights
  • Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature three rear cameras, according to a new leak.
  • It will feature the same primary, periscope, and ultra-wide cameras but with improvements.
  • The Galaxy S24 Ultra has a quad-camera setup at the back.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra camera details have surfaced online suggesting a major change for the next flagship. This time, Samsung is reportedly planning to remove one sensor from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. So it will come with a triple camera setup and not a quad-camera like the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This, however, doesn’t mean a drop in camera performance for the next Samsung flagship.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra triple camera setup tipped

  • A Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra prototype is currently being tested with only three cameras, according to a leak on X.
  • Samsung is removing the 10MP 3x zoom camera from the S25 Ultra. It will be compensated by the primary camera, which will be able to produce 3x photos without loss of quality.
  • The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s primary camera is said to have the same sensor size and megapixel count, which would be a 200MP 24mm sensor. But Samsung will improve the ability to capture light in the new main camera.
  • The periscope camera in the Galaxy S25 Ultra is tipped to feature a large sensor and variable zoom with two fixed focal lengths between 4 and 5x zoom and between 6 and 7x zoom. Samsung is yet to finalise the exact focal lengths.
  • Lastly, the ultra-wide camera in the Galaxy S25 Ultra prototype model isn’t going through any changes for now. Since this is still in testing, we can expect changes in future versions.
This is the first we’re hearing about the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera so we should expect more updates soon. It looks like the camera hardware will mostly remain the same with more improvements under the hood.

Recently, the Galaxy S25 Ultra prototype images had also leaked giving us an idea of the phone’s possible design. It looks like the Galaxy S25 Ultra will continue with the same design as its predecessor but with thinner bezels and a sleek frame.
