In case you doubted just how strong foldable phones can be, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 delivered rather impressive results in durability tests. Watch here.
In a new durability test video, popular YouTuber Zack Nelson (who goes by JerryRigEverything), did a series of tests on the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. He showcased how the UTG display on the main screen is clearly prone to scratches, which is also the case with the aluminium frame of the device.
However, what impressed us was the fact that even when the Galaxy Z Fold 5 was forced to bend outwards with a good amount of force, the phone remained intact and did not develop any deformities. Considering it's a foldable phone, it is expected to be on the delicate side and normal users are certainly not recommended to try this on their unit.
The device, with a mere 6.1mm thickness when unfolded, clearly exceeded our expectations this time around. But it is also worth noting that the bigger hinges on tablet-sized foldables are certainly more durable as compared to those on flip phones, so we do not expect the same to apply this well to this other category of foldable devices.
Zack was impressed by the results but also criticised the lack of changes compared to the last two generations of Galaxy Z Fold devices. It's however worth noting that the original Galaxy Fold couldn't survive the test but it got better with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, 3 and 4. Rival foldables, on the other hand, such as the Google Pixel Fold did not manage to survive, and crashed just after the first bend test. The screen gave up almost immediately with only part left slightly visible. The Pixel Fold refused to fold back properly either after the bend test.
Early deliveries of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 have begun today in India. The pre-order period and offers worth Rs 25,000 are expected to go on till August 17th. The device starts at Rs 1,54,999 for the 256GB storage variant and goes up to Rs 1,84,999 for a massive 1TB ROM.
