“The TAGG Loop offers good performance in the mid-range and gets reasonably loud too”

There has been one consistent trend in the tech industry over the last half a decade – everything is going wireless. You can already find a host of options for Bluetooth audio products in the market, including a handful of budget options that offer good quality sound. If we were to draw a Venn diagram of these two categories, the TAGG Loop Bluetooth speaker aims to fit in its very intersection. Does it manage to successfully achieve this feat? Read our detailed review to find out yourself.

Design

The oblong-shaped Loop comes with a plastic casing around the metallic speaker grille and seems quite sturdy. The speaker weighs in at around 500 grams, which make it one of the heavier offerings in this segment. Having said that, the Loop does not feel too heavy in the hand and can also be carried around easily in a bag. The music control options are present on the top, while the connectivity ports are located on the back. There is a micro-USB port for charging, a USB 2.0 port, a microSD card slot, and an auxiliary port. Although we did not try any drop tests, the Loop should survive a few drops, going by the build quality offered by the speaker.

tagg_loop_speaker5In terms of design, the Loop does not stand out in any particular way from some of the other speakers available in this price segment as the company has gone ahead with a pretty standard utilitarian choice. The rubber cut-out at the bottom ensures that the speaker sits nicely in its position and does not wobble around on being handled.

Sound Quality

The budget Bluetooth speaker from TAGG offer a decent bass performance, especially for the price range. There is no noticeable bass bleed that can hinder with the vocals and the effective sound is fairly impressive. As the mids are smooth, listening to songs like Girls like you and Connection is a delightful experience with the Loop. In the high range, the speaker tends to struggle a bit and the treble is rolled off a little, which might bother some but not everyone.

The speaker can reach impressively loud volumes but there is a notable quality loss at maximum sound levels. Considering this is a budget speaker, this aspect can be given a pass. Overall, the sound quality offered by Loop is impressive for its price and make it a compelling option in the category.

Battery life

The TAGG Loop houses a 2,400mAh battery and interestingly, can even act as a power bank to charge other devices. As you might have guessed from the power capacity, this should only be done in rare cases where you are about to run out of battery on your phone. Otherwise, you will not be left with enough juice to listen to songs on the speaker for a long time. While the Loop charges fully in around 2 to 3 hours, the speaker manages to last around 4-5 hours of regular use. This means, if you are planning to carry this Bluetooth speaker with you on a long trip, it would be wise to manage the usage accordingly.

Verdict

The TAGG Loop can currently be grabbed from Amazon at a price of Rs 2,299. As there are not many Bluetooth speakers in the affordable price segment that offer good vocal performance, the TAGG Loop can be described as a good option. Further, the connectivity options offered by the speaker as well as the reverse charging feature provide good value in general. However, the Loop struggles in the high range and at maximum sound levels. If you prefer to listen to songs that are heavy on vocals, this might be worth a look. But if you want to listen to some Led Zeppelin tracks, it would be better to search for another option, preferably in a higher price range.
