Vi announced its 5G services in India last year starting with specific locations in Delhi and Pune. Now, the telecom operator is likely focusing on expanding the services to other locations. According to a report by MoneyControl, Ericsson, a Swedish telecom gear manufacturer, is currently in talks to provide Vi with 4G and 5G gears.

As per the report, the telecom operator is planning to roll out 5G to more locations in about six months and is negotiating with other suppliers for deals. However, the report also mentioned that Vi’s main aim right now is to enhance 4G coverage across the country.

A recent Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) data states that Vi lost 16.25 million subscribers in the first 11 months of fiscal year 2024. This included over a million subscribers lost each month from November 2023 to February 2024. In terms of ranking, it is placed third in India – after Jio and Airtel, which are first and second, respectively.
