Vivo Y500 Pro launched in China, bringing major improvements over Y400 Pro
Vivo has launched the Y500 Pro smartphone in China, adding to its mid-range lineup. It succeeds the Vivo Y400 Pro, which is available in India, so the handset is expected to make its way to India as well. The Vivo Y500 Pro offers a bigger battery, better protection against dust and water, a faster chipset, and an upgraded camera as well. Based on just the specifications, the Vivo Y500 Pro appears to be a notable upgrade over its predecessor.
In China, the Vivo Y500 Pro starts at CNY 1,799 (Rs 22,000 approx) for the 8GB + 128GB variant. The 8GB + 256GB variant is priced at CNY 1,999 (Rs 25,000 approx), while the 12GB + 256GB option comes in at CNY 2,299 (Rs 28,000 approx). The top-end 12GB + 512GB model is priced at CNY 2,599 (Rs 32,000 approx). So in total, there are four memory variants, but not all might come to India. The colour options for the Y500 Pro include Auspicious Cloud, Light Green, Soft Powder, and Titanium Black.

The Vivo Y400 Pro (review) was launched at a starting price of Rs 24,999 in India, and in two variants. The Y500 Pro would likely be priced around the same. If so, it would compete against the Realme P4 Pro, OnePlus Nord CE5, and Infinix GT 30 Pro.
Coming to its specifications, the Vivo Y500 Pro features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K (1,260 × 2,800 pixels) resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and 1,600 nits peak brightness. The display is slightly smaller than the Y400 Pro (6.77-inch), and the peak brightness has dropped from 4,500 nits. This could result in less screen visibility outdoors.
On the software front, the Y500 Pro runs Android 16-based OriginOS 6 out of the box. It is powered by the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The chipset is a generational upgrade over the Y400 Pro’s Dimensity 7300, with 10 percent improved performance.
The primary camera has been upgraded from a 50MP sensor to a 200MP Samsung HP5 sensor, which should result in significantly improved image quality and video. The smartphone continues with a 2MP depth sensor and a 32MP selfie camera. The handset carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, making it one of the most durable devices in its segment. This is also a major upgrade over the Y400 Pro’s IP65 rating.
One of its biggest highlights is the 7,000mAh battery with 90W fast charging support. The Y400 Pro has a 5,500mAh battery, so the increase should translate to longer battery life on the latest model.
The Y500 Pro offers a far more powerful camera system, a significantly larger battery with faster charging, a more advanced chipset, and a stronger IP-rated build. Its India launch hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Vivo is consistent with the Y-series here. If you’re looking to upgrade from the Y400 Pro, then the Y500 Pro would make for a meaningful upgrade. As for those looking for a mid-range phone, we’d ask to wait for reviews to see how it compares with rivals in the same segment.
