4 reasons to buy OPPO Find X9s and 3 reasons to skip

The OPPO Find X9s has launched in India at a starting price of Rs 79,999. Positioned as a sub-flagship offering, the smartphone comes equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9500s SoC, Hasselblad-tuned 50MP triple rear cameras, a massive 7,025mAh battery, and a 120Hz AMOLED display, among other features.

In the OPPO Find X9s review, we found the handset to deliver a consistently smooth and enjoyable user experience, backed by impressive camera performance that produces balanced and reliable results across most scenarios. That said, the smartphone is not without its shortcomings. Read on to find out what works in favour of the OPPO Find X9s and where it falls short.

Reasons to buy the OPPO Find X9s

Capable Hasselblad-tuned cameras

The OPPO Find X9s features a versatile triple rear camera setup, comprising a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto lens. The handset captures detailed daylight shots with natural colours and balanced dynamic range, while the ultrawide camera performs relatively better for a sub-flagship.

The phone’s portraits and selfie performance may not be the best, but they do a fine job for a sub-flagship. Furthermore, features like Hasselblad mode, XPan, and Master mode further enhance the overall photography experience.

AnTuTu assesses a smartphone's CPU, GPU, memory, and overall user experience (higher is better)

At the core of the OPPO Find X9s lies MediaTek Dimensity 9500s SoC, which may not be the most powerful SoC in the segment, yet remains more than reliable. The SoC is paired with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB/ 512GB UFS 4.1 storage to deliver smooth day-to-day performance across gaming, multitasking, streaming, and camera usage. The handset also manages heat well under sustained workloads and maintains stable performance during extended sessions.

Premium design and bright, AMOLED display

While I would have preferred the OPPO Find X9s to experiment more with its design, it could still be a solid pick for anyone wanting a phone that looks and feels close to a flagship. The handset features a squircle camera module, flat edges, an aluminium frame, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection, and up to an IP69 water and dust resistance rating, all closely resembling the Find X9 and Find X9 Pro.

The Find X9s is also available in an eye-catching Sunset Orange colour option. Complementing the design is a 6.59-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,800 nits peak brightness, and Gorilla Glass 7i protection. The panel delivers vibrant colours, deep contrast, and excellent outdoor visibility. The experience is further enhanced by stereo speakers and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner.

Polished software experience

Running ColorOS 16 based on Android 16, the smartphone offers a smooth and feature-rich software experience with extensive customisation options. Features such as AI Eraser, AI Recompose, AI Perfect Shot, and pinned notifications add practical value, while OPPO’s commitment to five years of OS updates and six years of security patches improves long-term usability.

Reasons not to buy the OPPO Find X9s

Battery optimisation could have been better

The OPPO Find X9s packs a large 7,025mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC charging support, but the real-world endurance does not feel significantly ahead of rivals with smaller batteries. This could partly be attributed to its standard 120Hz AMOLED display instead of a more power-efficient LTPO panel with adaptive 1Hz-120Hz refresh rate support.

As a result, heavy usage involving navigation, camera usage, and gaming can push the phone close to needing a recharge by the end of the day. While it shouldn’t be an issue considering the 80W fast charging solution, the device feels less competitive against similarly priced alternatives such as the Vivo X300 FE.

Wireless charging support is missing

Another aspect that might be a deal breaker for some is the missing wireless charging feature. You would expect the phone priced under Rs 80,000 to offer a wireless charging feature for added convenience, but the OPPO Find X9s lacks one. The Vivo X300 FE, which is also a sub-flagship and retails for the same asking price as the OPPO Find X9S, offers 40W wireless charging feature.

Pricing overlaps with stronger alternatives

Vivo X300 FE

Starting at Rs 79,999, the OPPO Find X9s sits uncomfortably above the Find X9, which offers a more powerful chipset and additional flagship features. Moreover, you have rivals like the OnePlus 15 (review), offering a faster chipset and a bigger 7,300mAh battery, and the Vivo X300 FE (review), which delivers better battery optimisation and stronger low-light photography performance at a similar price.

To conclude

Ultimately, the OPPO Find X9s is best suited for users who prioritise a dependable camera system, smooth everyday performance, and a premium design over outright hardware advantages. However, those looking for the most well-rounded package at this price may find stronger value elsewhere in the market.
