The Vivo X Fold 6 is the company’s latest foldable, featuring flagship-level hardware. Succeeding last year’s X Fold 5 (review), the smartphone brings upgrades across performance, battery, cameras, and more. While its overall value and performance will be assessed in our full review, this article takes a first look at the Vivo X Fold 6 following a quick unboxing, including a look at everything included in the box.

If you have used or are currently using the Vivo X Fold 5, the X Fold 6 will look familiar and offer a similar in-hand feel. For those who haven’t, the smartphone features a book-style form factor with an aluminium frame sandwiched between glass layers. The back panel houses a large circular camera module, which has become a trademark of Vivo’s flagship smartphones.
On the front, the smartphone sports a 6.51-inch AMOLED display with a centred punch-hole cutout, razor-thin bezels, and curved corners, except for those near the hinge. The secondary display is a foldable 8.01-inch AMOLED panel with visibly thin bezels and a corner-aligned punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. The handset measures 157.16 x 74.26 x 9.4mm when folded, making it slimmer and more compact than Vivo’s X300 Ultra.
When unfolded, the X Fold 6 measures 145.6mm in width and is just 4.4mm thick. While it still cannot beat the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra in terms of thinness, the Vivo smartphone is not far behind. We had a comfortable experience using the smartphone in both folded and unfolded states. When folded, its in-hand feel is similar to that of a regular slab-style smartphone. Moreover, the smartphone weighs 228 grams, which is pretty impressive for a foldable with the biggest battery.
Other highlights of the Vivo X Fold 6 include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, a USB Type-C port, and a shortcut button in addition to the power button and volume rocker. Out of the box, the button functions like an alert slider, letting you toggle between ring and vibration modes with a single tap or hold, and turn on the flashlight with a double tap. Additionally, the Vivo X Fold 6 is IP58, IP59, IPX8, and IPX9 certified, ensuring protection from minor dust and high-temperature water jets.
As for the hinge, Vivo claims it is rated to survive over 6,00,000 folds and unfolds.
Moving on to the hardware, Vivo has made a few notable changes to the X Fold 6 under the hood. The handset is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Super Edition SoC, which should bring its performance more in line with other flagship foldables – something its predecessor failed to do. Furthermore, the OEM has upgraded the battery capacity from 6,000mAh to 6,900mAh, making it the largest battery on a foldable smartphone. It will be interesting to see how it fares in real-world usage. The handset is also backed by 80W Flash wired and 40W Flash wireless charging support for quick top-ups.
In terms of optics, the Vivo X Fold 6 replaces its predecessor’s main camera with a more capable 200MP Samsung HPB sensor with OIS. It is paired with a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP 3x telephoto lens with OIS. The upgraded camera setup, backed by Zeiss, should bring the foldable’s photography capabilities on par with, if not ahead of, regular slab-style smartphones. We will be putting the cameras through their paces, so stay tuned for our full review.
Meanwhile, both the main and cover displays feature a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, which houses a 20MP sensor. Both inner and cover displays are LTPO AMOLED type with 120Hz dynamic refresh rate, HDR support, and up to 5,000 nits peak brightness. Contrary to the global variant, the Vivo X Fold 6 in India ships with the latest OriginOS7 layered atop Android 17 out of the box.
The Vivo X Fold 6 comes with a Rs 2,19,990 price tag, making it significantly more expensive than its predecessor and even pricier than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. That said, the Vivo foldable makes a strong case for its premium with a more capable camera setup and a larger battery, two areas that could give it an edge over the competition. If photography and battery life are your priorities when buying a foldable, the Vivo X Fold 6 looks a compelling proposition on paper and could be worth considering.
