OxygenOS 16 to launch on October 16th: what to expect, compatible devices, and more

Highlights

OnePlus has officially announced the launch date for its next major software update. OxygenOS 16, based on Android 16, will be unveiled on October 16th. This is a major software update as it will introduce the latest Android 16 version, along with other features and visual changes. Based on the teaser shared by OnePlus, OxygenOS 16 will largely focus on AI features. OnePlus has also confirmed that Google’s Gemini models will be integrated into OxygenOS 16.

AI has been a key area of focus for smartphone brands, with features available in phones from every price segment, including budget. Even OxygenOS 15 was big on AI with features like AI Detail Boost, AI Unblur, Intelligent Search, and AI Notes. OnePlus 13s, which launched earlier this year, introduced Mind Space, a dedicated AI app that saves on-screen content. This feature works with a dedicated AI Plus Key on the 13s, but the app has been made available to older OnePlus phones as well.

OnePlus hasn’t revealed the new AI features for OxygenOS 16 yet. It has been confirmed, though, that Google’s Gemini AI models are set to be integrated into OxygenOS 16, the Android 16-based update for OnePlus devices. This update will introduce new on-device AI features and possibly let Gemini access a user’s saved content from the Mind Space hub, enhanced by the Plus Mind feature, according to an official teaser.

In the teaser, OnePlus also showcased how a user could ask the Google AI chatbot to plan a five-day trip to Paris, using relevant details stored in the Mind Space app. Gemini will also be able to pull information from Mind Space to handle personalised tasks, reducing the need for users to manually search through their saved content.

OnePlus has confirmed the devices that will receive the OxygenOS 16 update. Here’s the complete list:

OnePlus Pad 3 and Pad Lite haven’t been mentioned, but they’ll most likely get the update too. As for the rollout date, OnePlus has yet to confirm the same. However, it did mention that newer devices will be first in line to get the OxygenOS 16 update, and Indian users will be among the first too. Since it will be an over-the-air (OTA) update, it will be available in a phased manner.
