TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

The release date for the film was pushed back after the similarly-themed Chasing Liberty (2004) flopped at the box office. This movie flopped even harder.

Vera Wang designed all of Katie Holmes' ballgowns for this film. (Her originals usually retail for over $10,000 each.)

When Samantha (Katie Holmes) and Mia (Amerie) are sliding down the slope on the Slip 'N Slide, Holmes inadvertently pulled down Amerie's sweatpants while struggling to climb over the hay bales, exposing Amerie's bottom in view of the camera. Director Forest Whitaker chose to leave this in the final cut of the film, since it was a spontaneous event, and quite in line with the carefree nature of the scene.

The movie James (Marc Blucas) and Samantha (Katie Holmes) are watching in the movie theater is The Girl Can't Help It (1956). Director Forest Whitaker originally was set to direct a remake of the 1956 comedy after the release of this movie.

There is a scene where Samantha (Katie Holmes) climbs down a ladder in bare feet. In the DVD commentary, Holmes remarked that she was able to do only a single take because the rungs hurt her feet so badly.

Popular Dialogues

"Samantha Mackenzie: What was that? James Lansome: I was just saying goodnight. Samantha Mackenzie: What is this? Is this some kind of game to you James? James Lansome: No. Samantha Mackenzie: You don't have to pretend anymore. James Lansome: You're an amazing girl. Samantha Mackenzie: Would you stop it? Just stop lying to me. James Lansome: What could I have given to you Sam? I don't have anything to offer you. You're the President's daughter for Christsake. Samantha Mackenzie: I have spent, almost my entire life with people smiling at me. And laughing at my jokes. And telling me how special I am, and how great I am, and how nice, and smart. And right now, I don't know if any of that was true. Maybe it was all some kind of an act. I don't know. What if I was different? If I was just like everybody else James? How would you feel about me then? James Lansome: You just don't get it. Things are different. Samantha Mackenzie: What if they were? I think you at least owe me this. Forget image. Forget politics. Forget everything else but who I am right now in here. If things were different. James Lansome: If things were different... I'd still follow you around all the time - because I wanted to, not because I had to."

"James Lansome: Actually, I think I completely understand what you're going through. Samantha Mackenzie: You do? James Lansome: This one time, I won the class spelling bee. I couldn't get from point A to point B without people watching my every move. I had to avoid the press, the paparazzi. And the women. My God, the women, Sam. The number of training bras left in my locker could fill the support needs of an entire country."
