‘Kiss, Kiss!' is a Polish-language film directed by Tomasz Konecki that is an unfortunate mashup of outdated romantic and humorous ideas. The story follows Tomek, a self-absorbed man who is desperate for both a high-paying job in Los Angeles and the attention of any woman he meets. He follows Ola around town like a stalker, believing it will turn her on, but instead gets thrown out of a bus and loses his job for not attending a crucial meeting. Struggling for money, he convinces his estranged brother Janke to let him stay at his apartment. The plot progresses due to the necessity of moving the story forward, rather than organic character development. Tomek unexpectedly gets a chance to film a wedding video for Patsy's son, Kris. The wedding is a political event, with Kris marrying Ola against her will for political and financial reasons. Tomek sees this as an opportunity to win Ola's heart and kisses her, convinced that his actions are charming. Meanwhile, Janke, an awkward goof, falls for Klara, another awkward character with little to no character development. They are merely used as props for cheap laughs. The film's moral centers around the idea that confidence is key, and that women are attracted to men who appear heroic, careless, and apathetic. Tomek continuously pushes Janke to act this way. Ola is portrayed as a damsel in distress, seeking escape from a marriage she doesn't want. Tomek's shallow attempts at romance are cringeworthy and borderline creepy, and the characters lack depth. The film tries to add a political subplot with gangsters and scheming politicians, but it only serves to add to the mess. The use of outdated tropes and questionable behavior is abundant, and the characters' problems are solved too conveniently, making the plot unbearable. ‘Kiss, Kiss!' is a disappointing film that falls short in both its humor and its romantic storyline.
