The US Embassy in London, is currently located in Nine Elms district, a former industrial area between Battersea power station and Vauxhall, outside city center limits, south of the Thames River. It was open in 2017, in addition to the typical security requirements such as thoroughfare set-backs as well as concrete and anti-truck barriers, the building itself represent the pinnacle of environmental sustainability design: photovoltaic cells, rainwater collection, and ground heat extraction. It's most distinctive feature, is a collection of "façade sails" located on the exterior of the building, on the east, west, and south facing walls, which blocks glare and allows sunlight into the interior of the building. In 2007, the decision was made to move from its former Grosvenor Square location, designed by Eero Saarinen in 1956, due to changing security threat environment which was difficult and costly to accommodate. Because the former Embassy grounds was located in the Up-Market Mayfair district, its sale was used to finance the billion-dollar cost of the new embassy at no expense to the US taxpayer.

Case Officers like Martian operate in other countries in one of two ways. Official or Diplomatic Cover, where the officer gathers intelligence in another country as a government official such as a Cultural Attache, protected by Diplomatic Immunity. It is informally referred to as the "Diplomatic Cocktail Circuit," because isn't much meaningful information to be had. The other way is through Non-Official Cover (NOC) or "Deep-Cover", assume any role other than a government official, for long periods of time, without the safety net of immunity, under penalty of imprisonment, torture, or even death. Also, Case Officers were formerly known as Operations Officers, and these Case Officers can either be an Inside Officer (Official Cover) or Outside Officer ( Non-Official Cover), Just as Informants or Agents report to the Outside Officer, the NOC reports to the Inside Officer. The Inside Officer is his lifeline to the Agency, and any operational traffic, or information, vital to executing his mission. When the operational environment is so hostile as to preclude personal meetings between case officers and NOC's or other agents within a country, other forms of clandestine communications are used (e.g. electronic, satellite, secret writing, dead drops, etc.), and any personal meetings are held outside the country.
