3 YouTube accounts followed by over 33 lakh people busted for spreading fake news in India

Over 100 accounts were banned on YouTube in the past one year for spreading misinformation.

The central government's official information dissemination channel, Press Information Bureau (PIB), has flagged 40 fact checks on popular video streaming platform, YouTube. The YouTube channels in question are named News Headlines, Sarkari Update and Aaj Tak Live and are cumulatively followed by over 33 lakh subscribers.

According to a press statement by PIB, the YouTube channels were flagged for "spreading false and sensational claims about the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, Hon'ble Chief Justice of India, Government schemes, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), farm loan waivers, etc. among other fake news."
