iPhone 15 Plus likely to be cheaper due to poor sales of iPhone 14 Plus

Highlights
  • Apple may slash the price of the upcoming iPhone 15 Plus.
  • The price cut may be a part of restructuring the iPhone 15 portfolio.
  • Apple will likely include the Dynamic Island display feature on all iPhone 15 models.

Apple unveiled its next-generation iPhone 14 series this year with four new models. The tech giant, however, is said to be worried by the iPhone 14 Plus sales and is considering lowering its cost of the iPhone 15 Plus, besides restructuring the iPhone 15 portfolio. According to MacRumors, yeux1122, who has posted both reliable and misleading information in the past, Apple is considering ways to rethink how it handles Pro and non-Pro iPhones for the iPhone 15.

Apple’s strategies for iPhone 15 Plus

The report outlines two potential plans the tech giant is allegedly considering – the first is to further distinguish between Pro and non-Pro iPhones. Secondly, citing supply chain and industry insiders, the report indicated that Apple is considering lowering the price of the lineup’s Plus model, which currently starts at USD 899 (around Rs 75,000). An iPhone 15 Plus price cut implies that the basic iPhone, which begins at USD 799 (around Rs 66,000), may also receive a price cut unless Apple wishes to close the pricing difference between the two devices.

Apple has changed and reevaluated its iPhone portfolio several times in recent years. The tech giant began offering small and large-sized iPhone models with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus before expanding to four models, which include two standard and two high-end versions, with varying materials, colours, and camera functions.

iPhone 15 Plus specifications (expected)

According to a recent report, Apple is planning to include the pill-shaped Dynamic Island display feature on all iPhone 15 models. However, it is unlikely that the high-refresh ProMotion display will be included in the vanilla or Plus variants. It mentioned that Apple gets its LTPO panels from Samsung and LG, while the conventional 60Hz displays come from BOE. BOE will not have the LTPO panels ready for the iPhone 15 launch. Therefore, Apple will most likely go with the current 60Hz panels for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

Next year, the tech giant has allegedly planned to launch the Apple iPhone 15 Ultra instead of its ‘Pro Max’ variant. The iPhone is said to come with features like 8K video and a periscope lens.

Meanwhile, Apple launched the iPhone 14 Plus model this year, and it comes with a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. It is powered by a new version of the A15 Bionic chipset. The iPhone 14 Plus sports a 12MP dual camera setup. It offers 4GB RAM and 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage variants.
