One UI 6.1 update disables notification channels
- Google introduced notification channels with Android 8.0 Oreo, and it’s one feature that helps users manage notifications on their devices. What it basically does is group notifications from apps into different groups. So you can receive each notification individually, and decide what type of notification that can be displayed from each app.
- The latest One UI 6.1 update disables this feature on the Galaxy S24 series, according to a report by Android Police. Samsung actually added a toggle to enable or disable notification channels but this is turned off by default. It has also been renamed to categories so users might not be aware about it, the report added.
- For now, this feature is turned off by default on the Galaxy S24, and the issue seems to have appeared only after the One UI 6.1 update.
- The update only disables the feature, and doesn’t cause any other issue but it can still be a hassle to users who aren’t aware about it. One UI 6.1 will be rolling out to other Samsung devices so the issue might extend too.
If you’re on the Galaxy S24 series, and updated to the latest One UI 6.1, here’s what you need to do:
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Scroll down to the bottom, and open the Advanced Settings menu.
- Once you’re here, you’ll have to turn on Manage notification categories for each app.
