10 best Mirzapur-like Hindi web series to watch online: Aarya, Rangbaaz, The Family Man, and more

There’s no dearth of gritty crime thrillers on OTT platforms, in fact, you might be hard-pressed to find a show that isn’t dark and hard-hitting, While the gory Mirzapur found a strong fan base among fans, several other shows became a rage among viewers that dealt with similar themes of betrayal, bloodlust, complicated family bonds and mafia-related violence. Before Sushmita Sen’s Aarya and Manoj Bajpayee’s The Family Man, there was Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Sacred Games that had kickstarted the whole genre in India itself.

The Family Man

The Family Man stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role as the wry Shrikant Tiwari, a senior intelligence officer, trying to balance his difficult profession and unsteady family life. The first season sees him investigating a potential terror attack, while the second season sees a Tamil Tiger-Esque military resistance from Sri Lanka and how they plan to attain freedom. Season 2 starred Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The makers have already confirmed that there is The Family Man season 3 in the making.

A series set against the background of 90’s Gorakhpur. The show is based loosely on the real story of Shri Prakash Shukla, an infamous gangster from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The show stars Saqib Saleem, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Ranvir Shorey in pivotal roles and has three seasons to its credits.

Asur

Asur is set in the city of Varanasi and revolves around Nikhil Nair, a forensic expert-turned-teacher who is compelled to rejoin the CBI, with his former mentor as he tries to solve the mystery of a ruthless serial killer. The show stars Arshad Warsi, Barun Sobti, Sharib Hashmi and Ridhi Dogra among others.

Special Ops

Directed by Neeraj Pandey, Special Ops sees Kay Kay Menon as Himmat Singh, a member of the Research and Analysis Wing, who forms a team of five agents as he has to hunt down the man responsible for the terror attacks in India. The show also stars Karan Tacker, Vinay Pathak and Saiyami Kher among others.

Criminal Justice

Breathe

Breathe and its subsequent sequel, Breathe Into The Shadows stars Amit Sadh, Abhishek Bachchan and Nithya Menen in the lead roles. Sacred Games

The first original Netflix show, Sacred Games focuses on disgraced officer Sartaj Singh in Mumbai. After the call, Sartaj undertakes a perilous quest to prevent such destruction and finds himself in the heart of the city’s seedy underbelly.
