Ever since the wave of OTT we’ve seen a rise in Indian web series of different genres, and especially those that we’d normally not see on the big screen. Now you can find Indian web series of just about any popular and offbeat genre, and on various streaming platforms. With a good bank of content available and for several years now, IMDb has come up with a list of the 50 most popular Indian web series of all time.
IMDb editors have come up with a list that ranks the 50 most popular Indian web series based on the page views of IMDb customers in India during the period between January 1st, 2018 and May 10th, 2023. Do note that these are user-generated reviews and not from film critiques. IMDb registered users can vote on movies available on its database. The platform then accumulates the votes and comes up with a single IMDb rating for each title.
The 50 most popular Indian web series
The India web series that made it to IMDb’s list isn’t surprising as we can see some popular and expected titles. Taking the first spot is Sacred Games that released on Netflix in 2018 with an 8.5 rating on IMDb. There have been two seasons of Sacred Games with a third one planned but it was later cancelled by Netflix.
Mirzapur is another fan favourite and rightly so it took the second spot with the same IMDb rating. There have been two seasons so far for the Pankaj Tripathi-starring series, and it streams exclusively on Amazon Prime.
The third spot has been taken by Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story which is based on a true story. This series has more votes than the top two and even a higher rating of 9.3 on IMDb. Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story is completed so there’s no sequel to it, and the series is available to stream on SonyLiv.
Another Prime Video show that’s on the top five is The Family Man which has taken the fourth spot. It stars Manoj Bajpayee who plays the role of an NIA agent who has to fight terrorism but also hide his job from his family to protect them. This series has over 90,000 votes on IMDb has so far received an 8.7 rating.
