Google Pixel 8 series bags `Best Smartphone` award at MWC 2024

Pixel 8 series has received 2023’s ‘Best Smartphone’ award at the MWC 2024.
Shortlisted candidates this year included the iPhone 15 Pro series, the OnePlus Open, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Pixel 8 series.
iPhone 14 Pro Max took the crown last year.

The Google Pixel 8 series debuted at the hardware event in October 2023 and includes two models: the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. These will succeed the Pixel 7 lineup and bring some table improvements to cameras, performance and more. Now, the duo has won the 2023 Phone of the Year award at MWC. There are a series of awards for the mobile industry and one of the biggest in the category is the “Best Smartphone.”

Pixel 8 series wins the Best Smartphone at the MWC

“The Best Smartphone award combines outstanding performance, innovation and leadership as determined through assessment of smartphones on the market during the period January 2023 to December 2023, by world-leading independent analysts, journalists and influencers,” said GSMA about the award in general.

Back in 2023, Apple iPhone 14 Pro took the title and iPhone 13 Pro Max won the year before. Galaxy S21 Ultra is the only Samsung phone to win the crown in recent years. This is the first time Google has taken the title. Pixel 6 Pro was shortlisted in 2021, while Pixel 3’s Night Sight feature won the GSMA award for “Disruptive Device Innovation” in 2019.

Google reportedly hit a new milestone this year on the back of the Pixel 8 series by shipping 10 million total devices in 2023.

The Pixel 8 Pro ships with a 50MP wide-angle lens, a 48MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens with Super Res Zoom up to 30x zoom. While the Pixel 8 comes with a 50MP wide camera with Super Res Zoom and a 12 MP ultra-wide camera. There is a 10.5MP front camera on both models.

The Pixel 8 series ships with the Tensor G3 chipset, an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, a Titan M2 security microprocessor, and an OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
