“The new search tab is supported on most mobile browsers, except UC Browser and Opera Mini”
Google has introduced a new tab in Google Search for mobiles, which makes it easier to switch search results between English and Hindi. Thanks to the new tab, users can type a query in English when using Google Search on their Android or iOS smartphone, and then flip to read the results in Hindi, or vice-versa.
The new tab search feature has started rolling out for mobile users in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Delhi and West Bengal, and will be released to more states in the coming weeks. The feature is supported on most mobile browsers, except UC Browser and Opera Mini. Alternatively, users can use the feature on the Google Search app.
Announcing the new feature in a blog post, the company said, “Users in India would now be able to search for information online the same way they live: moving between multiple languages depending on the moment or the audience. For example, users may search for “samachar” in English, but would rather find results better for a Hindi query".
The new feature works across queries, such as movies, celebrities, sport and even health-related information. Google is targeting India's significant Hindi-speaking population with the new search feature. Google hasn't mentioned if the feature will support other languages as of now.
