Google feature finds, removes personal information from Search
What this feature essentially does is scan search results to check if any of your personal information is available online. This includes your name, address, phone number and email. You’ll have to provide this information, and Google will check for search results with the same details. Google will also give you the option to remove it from search results.
Google won’t entirely remove the information but it will basically hide it from Search, according to a report by CNBC. This way it will be more difficult for others to find your information online. Google is the most popular and widely used search engine so it’s the go-to option for anyone to look up anything online.
How to use it:
- Open a web browser and type ‘myactivity.google.com/results-about-you’ in the search box.
- Select “Results to review,” then choose “Get Started” and press “Next,” twice.
- Here, you’ll have to enter your personal details – name, address, phone number and email.
- Once you’ve entered all details, choose email or push notifications or both as the option to get alerts.
- Google will then show a pop-up message saying, “We’re taking a look.”
Google will then scan online and see if there’s any information available online with the details provided. If there’s any then you’ll be alerted about it. Google will also give you the option to remove the information or let it be. This feature appears to be limited to select markets. It’s currently not available online but Google is expected to release it here as well.
