- There is a large cover screen on the top portion, with a pill-shaped camera module on the top-left corner.
- This comes amidst the rumours of the brand launching the Honor Magic V Flip.
Honor seems to be working on a new foldable phone, thanks to a trademark filing at the China National Intellectual Property Administration as exclusively spotted by 91mobiles. The images in the patent listing show the phone will have a clamshell design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip lineup and the Motorola Razr. The foldable can be seen having a large outer screen as well.
Hono clamshell foldable appears on patent filing
- Interestingly, Honor filed for the patent way back in May 2022 and was only authorised and the listing was made live earlier today i.e. May 24th 2024.
- The patent images show the foldable will have a typical folding design, with the handset folding in the middle. This means there will be a noticeable crease.
- The front of the phone has a centre-positioned punch-hole cutout and slim bezels. The volume rocker and power button are placed on the right edge.
- The USB Type-C port and speaker vents are at the bottom.
- Flipping the phone to the back, you see a large cover screen on the top portion, with a pill-shaped camera module on the top-left corner.
- The actual dimensions of the phone are not clear at the moment.
Since this is a patent filing there are chances Honor may or may not bring a commercial device with the same design. But since foldables are on the rise there’s a very good chance Honor might make this a reality.
Honor Magic V Flip launching soon?
The patent listing comes to light amidst rumours of the company gearing up to introduce the Honor Magic V Flip foldable (pictured below) alongside the Honor 200 series next month. The leaked render does show the same clamshell mechanism, but a different design.
According to tipster DigitalChatStation, the foldable would come with a massive cover display, which is claimed to be among the largest in the segment. For context, the Motorola Razr has a 3.6-inch cover display, while the Z Flip 5 features a 3.4-inch panel.
According to the tipster, the whole outer panel is a screen with a tiny bezel at the bottom. The render posted by the tipster shows a circular camera island on the top-left corner of the back panel.
There is a noticeable difference in the design of the leaked render and that of the patent. Nothing is confirmed by the company, so we’d have to wait and watch how Honor’s first flip foldable actually turns out looking.
