Intel has brought the 14th-generation Core i9-14900KS processor for desktop PCs. It boasts a max clock speed of 6.2GHz, achieved through 24 cores/32 threads and 36MB of Intel Smart Cache feature. The chipmaker also highlights several other performance gains for gamers and content creators. Let’s find out about this chip’s improvements over its predecessor, key specs, and availability details.
Intel Core i9-14900KS specifications
- CPU: Intel Core i9-14900KS sports 24 cores (8 of which are performance cores and the rest are 16 are efficiency cores), 32 threads, and a max turbo clock speed of 6.2GHz frequency. The setup also consists of a 36MB (L3) Intel Smart Cache and the max TDP is 253W. This Raptor Lake Refresh is faster than its predecessor, the 6.0GHz i9-13900KS.
- Memory: The chip supports 192GB of dual-channel DDR5 RAM with 89.6GB/s bandwidth, along with 20 PCIe lanes (16 PCIe 5.0 and four PCIe 4.0 lanes).
- GPU: The graphics are handled by Intel UHD Graphics 770 with 1.65GHz max dynamic frequency. Intel has also added a new feature called Application Optimisation (APO) that optimises and prioritises the device hardware for games. The company claims this APO offers up to 11% performance uplift in 14 supported games. Compared to its precursor, the chip delivers up to 15% improved results and up to 73% performance jump in heavy workloads like 3D production. The GPU’s max TGP is 15 watts.
- Motherboard: The chip can work on Z790 and Z690 motherboards with the latest BIOS version.
The processor also supports features like Thread Director, Adaptive Boost, vPro, and Virtualization.
