iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro battery health issue
Apple added the ability to check your iPhone’s battery health with the iOS 11.3 update. You can do this by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. Here, you’ll see the battery health percentage of your iPhone. With years of usage your iPhone’s battery health is bound to decrease but it looks like the process is quicker for the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro.
Sam Kohl of AppleTrack brought this issue up in July when he shared that his iPhone 14 Pro’s battery health had already dropped to 90 percent, The Verge reported. Kohl added that this was much faster than the previous iPhones he owned. There have several other users who have shared screenshots of their iPhone’s battery health with some even dropping to 87 percent. For context, our iPhone 11 from 2019 has a battery health of 82 percent. The battery drop issue seems to be affecting iPhone 14 Pro Max users as well.
Apple says that your iPhone’s battery should “retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles.” Now it’s impossible to figure out if these affected iPhone 14 owners have completed 500 charging cycles, and each user’s usage would be different. But with the iPhone 14 series not having completed even a year since its launch the issue does seem problematic, especially if you’re shelling out almost a lakh for the device.
Apple is yet to make a statement on the iPhone 14 battery health issue. This issue also comes just weeks before the iPhone 15 series that is expected to debut somewhere around September 12th. The new iPhones are said to come with bigger batteries than the previous generation.
