Apple was expected to start manufacturing iPhone 14 in India six weeks after launch, but the manufacturing has already begun.
As per the report, iPhone 14 will get manufactured at Foxconn's Sriperumbudur factory based in Chennai. The iPhones assembled at this facility will be sold locally and exported to foreign countries. This means you will now witness a 'Made in India' tag on iPhone 14 retailing in India and worldwide.
In a statement to PTI, Apple said: We're excited to be manufacturing iPhone 14 in India, the new iPhone 14 lineup introduces groundbreaking new technologies and important safety capabilities.
The iPhone 14 launched with the same price tag as the iPhone 13 globally but came to Indian shores with a hiked retail price. In theory, made-in-India iPhone 14 should result in a cheaper iPhone 14 price tag than what it is selling now, but it'll be interesting to see if, and that's a big if, Apple slashes the iPhone 14 price in India.
Apple has a long history of selling iPhones in India, more than 20 years, to be precise. The Cupertino giant started mass-producing iPhones in India in 2017, and the first Made in India iPhone was the original iPhone SE. Since then, Apple has continued to make and sell 'Made in India' iPhones in the country.
