Reliance-backed Jio introduced the JioBharat feature phone series earlier this year in a move to lure more users into using smart features and are not comfortable yet moving to smartphones. The Bharat series has three models at the moment and the company apparently has plans to introduce more in the future. Sunil Dutt, President of the devices division at Jio, shared the brand’s vision and plans for the future of 4G feature phones.
JioBharat feature phones’ future
- The executive, speaking to ET, has revealed the company has a goal of moving approximately 250 million 2G users to 4G and beyond.
- The company is working with various feature phone makers like Lava, Nokia and Itel to achieve the goal.
- Jio is working with the said partners to release their own versions of the JioBharat 4G feature phones.
- The executive says the plan is to have JioBharat as a platform where some aspects would remain unchanged across all devices.
- The major difference would be in the form of form factor, size, and colours.
“We wanted to establish the product in the market and in the minds of the consumer, so they could associate with it, relate with it…Today, all brands, whether it’s Itel, Lava or Nokia, are in touch with us in terms of how we make it happen,” said Sunil Dutt.
JioBharat has three models listed on the official website and these include JioBharat V2, JioBharat B1, and JioBharat K1 Karbonn. These are available at Rs 999, Rs 999, and Rs 1,299, respectively. What sets these phones apart is that they come with special 4G monthly plans. Jio currently offers a Rs 123 recharge plan with 28-day validity. This offers 14GB of 4G data, unlimited calls, 300 SMS per day and access to JioCinema and JioSaavn apps.
