Motorola has announced that all of its Moto phones launching in the second half of 2024 and beyond will be featuring Gorilla Glass. This is considered the optimal glass protection over displays on modern smartphones. Let’s see why this matters for Motorola phones as well as the broader smartphone market.
Motorola smartphones in 2024 to get Gorilla Glass
- At MWC 2024, Motorola revealed it’s partnering with Corning to bring Gorilla Glass for all its smartphones launching from H2, 2024.
- Ruben Castano, Motorola’s Head of Customer Experience said with this the company aims to offer “access to the durability and peace of mind that comes with this cutting-edge technology.” Gorilla Glass is known to offer “damage resistance to drops and scratches, while still allowing for sensitive touch response”.
- Once we approach mid-year, we will have an idea of the Moto smartphones with the Gorilla Glass protection. The company hasn’t mentioned any phone name or the variant of Gorilla Glass yet. 9to5Google has however seen Motorola demoeing Gorilla Glass 5 and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 at its MWC booth.

- The higher the value, the better. This shows the Victus 2 is the most drop-resistant of the lot. While its flagship models already offer this higher-end Gorilla Glass protection, the new announcement is more promising for the durability of budget handsets.
- Following Motorola, other brands could also adopt Gorilla Glass for their entire lineup. This is good for the broader market.
- Motorola’s parent company, Lenovo also mentioned that select Lenovo laptops and tablets will bring the Gorilla Glass screen.

Besides this, Motorola also showcased Smart Connect software for interconnectivity between Motorola smartphones, tablets and Lenovo’s laptops and PCs with Windows 10 or later. Its various features include screen mirroring, remote control of content, continuous media playback, file sharing, notification sync, and clipboard sync across these different devices. You can even use the phone camera as a webcam on the laptop.
