Realme Neo 8 will be a sub-flagship offering, catering to the needs of gamers.
The handset is expected to offer an adaptive refresh rate of up to 165Hz.
It could reportedly be powered by an 8,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging.
Realme is keeping itself busy across multiple markets, not just in India but in China as well. The company is set to launch the Realme 16 Pro series in India on January 6th, while simultaneously confirming the arrival of the Realme Neo 8 in China. Although an exact launch date for the Neo 8 has yet to be announced, the latest addition to the Neo lineup is expected to debut in its home market later this month. Realme has already confirmed the launch timeframe and revealed the smartphone’s chipset and design, with reports suggesting that the device will make its way to India.

Distinctive design
Realme has shared the first teaser image of the Realme Neo 8. The handset will be available in a Cyber Purple colour option, featuring a transparent RGB design and the iconic Awakening Halo system. The system will have RGB lights, which may illuminate while gaming and for notifications such as calls and messages.
“The Awakening Halo design will immediately draw attention,” states Chase Xu, CMO and Vice President of Realme. He also highlighted that the metal frame paired with a transparent glass back offers a premium in-hand feel, reflecting refined materials and craftsmanship.
The design is in line with the previously leaked image, which revealed the image with a slightly silver hue and orange accent in the Halo system. The smartphone will feature a squarish camera module, similar to the Realme GT 8 Pro.

Realme Neo 8 promises strong performance
At the core of the Realme Neo 8 lies the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which is a sub-flagship SoC from the house of Qualcomm. However, as seen on the OnePlus 15R (review), the chipset delivers impressive performance across categories with good optimisation. The OnePlus smartphone suffered minimal throttling and scored just marginally lower than the OnePlus 15 (review), which is powered by the top-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, on the benchmarking apps.
Realme claims that the Neo 8 achieved an AnTuTu score of 3.58 million, which is higher than the OnePlus 15R’s 2.9 million score recorded during our internal testing. Moreover, the Realme executives have promised the device to be a new-generation gaming-focused flagship, which will prioritise consistent frame rates and thermal efficiency instead of short bursts of peak performance. This is something that gamers will appreciate.
Leaks indicate promising specs for the Realme Neo 8
Realme may not have confirmed the other details, but if leaks and rumours are anything to go by, the Neo 8 is expected to feature a 165Hz refresh rate display for smoother frame rates for fast-paced games. The handset may sport a 6.78-inch flat Samsung AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, which should promise a vibrant and crisp viewing experience. That said, it may be an LTPS panel instead of LTPO, which is more power-efficient and dynamic in refresh rate.
Nevertheless, the display will reportedly provide a comfortable viewing experience with support for high-frequency PWM dimming. To keep the lights on, the Realme Neo 8 is said to house a mammoth 8,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging and bypass charging support. This should promise long gaming sessions without battery anxiety or the phone running hot while gaming.
The Realme Neo 8 is also expected to feature an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is quick to unlock the device, and an IP68/ 69 dust and water-resistant design.
That’s all we know so far.
Realme Neo 8 could be GT 8 in India
The Realme Neo-series smartphones are rebranded as the GT-series in India. Last year’s Neo 7 was launched as Realme GT 7T in the country. Similarly, the Neo 8 could be rebranded as the Realme GT 8. There is no official confirmation on the details yet, so take the news with a grain of salt.
India’s availability of the Realme Neo 8 could still be a while away. So, if you’re looking to buy a smartphone right now, it makes sense to consider alternatives like the OnePlus 15R. While it may not match the Realme Neo 8’s rumoured battery capacity, the OnePlus offers the same chipset and similar display credentials, making it a reliable and well-rounded option.
