Redmi is introducing a new model to its K90 series, the K90 Ultra. This one, too, will be launched as a new gaming-focused smartphone, equipped with a built-in cooling fan, like the recently launched Redmi K90 Max. The brand has now officially revealed the launch details of the Redmi K90 Ultra, along with key specifications about the handset.

Redmi K90 Ultra launch date

The Redmi K90 Ultra is scheduled to launch in China on June 30th at 7 pm China time. The handset is confirmed to launch in the CNY 3,000 (Rs 41,853 approx) price segment as a performance-focused gaming smartphone. This price segment has become a focus for brands to offer flagship-level chipsets and large battery capacities with performance in mind.

In addition to the launch date, Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing also shared key details about the Redmi K90 Ultra. The smartphone is claimed to achieve 144 FPS ultra-high definition graphics in MOBA games. Weibing also said that the Redmi K90 Ultra has been tested for a 180-minute game run in a 30℃ environment with no frequency throttling or frame drops throughout the session. This suggests that the Redmi K90 Ultra can handle graphic-heavy titles without breaking a sweat.

The Redmi K90 Ultra will be equipped with a D2 dedicated gaming graphics chip, e-sports touch controls, gaming audio effects, and landscape network optimisation. It also houses the same active cooling fan as the Redmi K90 Max, claimed to reduce the temperature up to 10°C in 100 seconds.

Gaming smartphones are now evolving beyond simply offering the fastest processor and brands are focusing on dedicated gaming hardware and improved thermal management to deliver consistent performance during long sessions. The Redmi K90 Ultra also follows a similar approach.

The Redmi K90 Ultra is confirmed to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is a flagship chipset, but launched in 2024. It’s still capable of achieving high performance levels. It could also house a battery capacity larger than 8,500mAh with 100W fast charging support. This would make it one of the biggest in its class.

With this hardware setup, the Redmi K90 Ultra would stand out among the performance-focused smartphones in its segment. Its dedicated features and equipment for thermals give it an advantage over rivals for intensive gaming sessions. The Redmi K90 Ultra seems suited for power users who want a performance-focused phone with a large battery. For serious mobile gamers prioritising sustained performance, this looks like a strong contender, but general users might find its specialised features overkill. It’s still advisable to wait for reviews and see if the upgrades are significant before going ahead and purchasing the handset.
